Flitcroft sacked for losing to Vale

Mansfield weren't exactly plucky underdogs in this division. They targeted promotion, and their wage budget will have reflected this.

Flitcroft will maybe look back on one or two key incidents and wonder 'what if': Brown's penalty save, Ricky laying off the dust for long enough to score a brace, and maybe the fact that one of the teams that pipped them for promotion signed lots of players they couldn't afford and whose wages they haven't been paying. All fine margins.

Surely every club has what if moments?

The pure FACT is that Mansfield went to MK Dons in a game where they needed a point to get automatic and lost to the team in 4th place.

The fact they were 3rd after 45 games suggests losing to Vale was not the reason he lost his job!!!

They also lost at home to Yeovil.

Yeovil were a really poor side, they couldn't play and didn't work hard either. Their best spell in any game was the warm up.

But to be fair, the end of the season is whole chance to succeed and he failed. So now they may be going to cut the budget and need a new approach or they are going to sign more players and if so the owners have to trust the manager to invest; they may not feel they want to do that.
