Bolton gone into admin

The FA needs to take a long look at themselves and their processes for due diligence. There are too many owners who want the bragging rights but don’t give a damn about the club, its history or its fans. Without Carol & Kevin, who hold PVFC close to their heart, it could well have been us staring down the barrel. Any NCFC fans out there, you have been warned.

I was reading about the court hearing this morning, it was believed that they had applied to go into administration but nobody could confirm. There was an adjournment granted to allow that to happen.

Macc were also in court, they had a winding up order for about 20 grand from a local youth club, they'd paid that but then HMRC took the winding up order over. They've had another adjournment.

also Yeovils takeover has collapsed this morning so they could be the next one to go into administration. Wonder if Smurf will pump his ill-gotten gains into someone like Yeovil?
Not if their supporters can help it.

Anyone know if there's still an outstanding penalty from the EFL because they didn't complete their fixtures?

there has been mention of a further 8pts deduction, but this has not been confirmed.

Got a hearing for it, its a strange one, I recall Middlesborough not turning up once as they had massive injuries in the 90's think they got a 3 point deduction and actually went down! as well as the game awarded as a loss.

Blackpool fans invaded the pitch a couple of years back and got the last game called off but that was just given as a 0-0 as it had no effect on the table so could go either way.

Issue for Bolton is the debts are so high they may struggle to get a CVA and lose a further 15 plus points.

Notts fans getting worried about Fatman taking them over too. So that’s Bury, Bolton and Notts that he’s been linked to in the last week. Should never be allowed into an English football ground ever again let alone own a club.

You have to feel a lot of sympathy for the Bolton supporters. Here's a letter sent by a long-serving fan to the EFL about the potential deduction for going into administration:

Dear Sirs,

As a Bolton Wanderers supporter and season ticket holder, I must express my dismay at the prospect of my club incurring yet another potential twelve-point deduction as we prepare to embark on a season in League One.

Can you please tell me how us the fans and the players are responsible for the financial incompetence off the field? I have never thought it was appropriate to impose sanctions like this on the players and the fans. It’s not our fault. Yet we are always the ones that suffer. It’s just rubbing salt into an open wound and it doesn’t, in reality, help anyone.

You should be punishing the people who are responsible for our dire financial situation. The mismanagement of the club stretches back to our latter days in the Premier League.

While we don't want clubs benefiting for spending beyond their means, it doesn't seem likely that this is the case at Bolton, just as at Blackpool, where the EFL decided the 12 points shouldn't be deducted. All it will do to Bolton is increase their chances of yet another relegation. I've always doubted the justice of sporting penalties for off-field malpractice where it's the Directors who should bear responsibility.

There are a large number of clubs in the Championship in breach of financial fair play rules and likely to suffer a points deduction penalty or worse. Birmingham already have and more will follow.

In Bolton's case the insolvency goes back to massive over reaching in their PL years and prior to fair play rules. Once they got relegated and lost the income stream to finance and repay the debt they were pretty much condemned to this outcome. I worry about them being completely thrown out of the league and ending up in something like the Lancashire Combination, or whatever it is called now.

An argument can be made that Bolton supporters were treated to a decade of top level football the club could not afford. That was their upside, now they have got severe downside. I am not agreeing with my own argument here, because I have a lot of empathy with Bolton. That includes spending a lot of time in the stadium on business because my past employer had a regional office nearby.

I think there comes a point where things are so bad that administration at least draws a line and allows new ownership to emerge. I was concerned to see the geezer trying to take the club over recently. He looked like a 1960's gangster who couldn't even manage to buy a jacket that fitted him. Living in the North West I see more TV coverage of this. So I hope that in coming out of administration the club is purchased by a credible person or persons and not more charlatans.
