I'd say his injury record may have put us off. Like you say though, absolute class act if they can keep him fit.

Richie Bennett is a 28 L2 striker, but I wouldn't describe him as "mobile" as Askey alluded to the type of strikers he wants to sign.

 

He's a 6'4 target man.

 

I'd be fairly happy with that if we get some good wingers to supply him.

 

To be fair he is more mobile than you think,certainly more mobile than pope and if it is him then it looks like being a choice between the two on who starts

Shame with howkins. Could have been the best centre half in the league easily. Class act and if he dosent get injured will play higher.

I suspect that's the issue. He's had two loan spells with us during which we played 32 league games and he's started 12. Bit of a risk with a record like that.

Bennett appears to have been much maligned at Carlisle, then found some confidence at Morecambe and was very good. So much so that Carlisle fans were begging for him to he brought back from his loan on twitter.

 

Good addition if it comes off, could his signing signal the begining of the end for Popey? Assuming Bennett does play the target man role that Pope has done so well over the last few years.

Pope will turn 34 not long after the beginning of the season and it won't be long before he gets 'veteran' status. We will need to be smart about his workload.

Soccerbase says 9 in 42 last season, where does 9 in 17 come from?
