Who should we sign?

Its time to play a game.

The title of this thread is 'who should we sign?' but it has become a 'I don't like this signing but I'm providing no alternative'

Please post below players you would be satisfied with signing for Port Vale. I want to see what the genuine expectations are.

If we're going onto ground of 'ex-players and Nicky Ajose' then we might as well pack it in.

Durrell (Macc fans rate him v. highly)

PCH

David Amoo

Mark Cullen

Lee Angol

Sam Jones

David Ball (probably unrealistic though)

Great post and quite right too!

I appreciate everything said there, and tend to agree with the majority of your posts. However, I'm not particularly fussed if there are ex-players who we are interested in as long as they improve what we have. For example, Jack Grimmer is a decent player and we need a full back, and seeing as the lad can play centre half aswell, that's a bonus. Would he drop down from League One? That's the bigger debate.

Me personally, always been a fan of Mark Cullen (Blackpool) and think with a run of games could do very well. I appreciate his strike rate in his best spell is 1 in 3, but for the right money would be worth a go in League 2 (which is probably his level).

Another lad I am a big fan of is young Aaron Collins who spent the latter half of last season at Morecambe following his release by Wolves, scored 8 in 15 for them to help them avoid the dreaded drop. Quick, mobile and if I remember right had a great loan spell at Notts County a couple of seasons ago, while he was still being used as a wide player. He's a lad finding his way in the game, and possibly a bit of a gamble, but one that could be worth very serious consideration.

Good practical suggestions.

Affordable and probably realistic. Collins I fully agree with.

Good post this. Positive and constructive, and well thought out.

Nicky Maynard, if we can afford his wages, lives local scored 21 goals last season.

Won't be able to afford or attract him. Top scorer for a team who went up, and they're now about to liquidate as a result of paying his surely extortiante wages (amongst other players). He'll be looking at League 1/moneybags League 2 (mentioning no names).

Durell, PCH, Amoo, Cullen, and Jones are all reasonable.

Jones is under contract so would need to be a loan move.

I am enjoying this thread a lot more now we are specutively discussing names as opposed to 'don't like Lloyd, don't like Crooks, I want a striker but I'm not going to name him'.

SoIf the two we’ve signed can’t get in this god awful side then we’re back to quantity over quality!!.

This quality vs quantity line baffles me when people use it against the signings so far.

If Ryan Lloyd plays 2 games next year he will contribute more than the following combined:

Calveley - 1 games

Whelan - 0 games

Edser - 0 games

Pugh - 0 games

Tongue - 0 games

Benns - 0 games

Askey knows he can use him in certain scenarios to close games out or cover injuries... a fair amount of wages saved too even after taking into account some of the above were loans.

Makes me laugh the happy clappers who said Dodds would score 10 goals.

Those happy clappers will now be saying Lloyd will score 10 goals when he hasn’t scored a league goal and support the Manager bull@hit.

I am sure league clubs are clamouring to sign a prolific goal scorer like Lloyd so why not wait to see who is available as players get desperate to get fixed up with a contract.

Askey says he is waiting until the end of the window for these players but is happy to give a contract to a player unable to get a place in a struggling Macc team.

This will be an easy signing for Askey about time he got off his @rse and signed some decent first team players.

How many more non league gambles do we need.

Quality not quantity.

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

You realise we’ve got bugger all money right?

Pretty sure Pugh started the game at home to Lincoln. He even scored in the trophy. Doesn't alter your point though.
