Who should we sign?

We have the best keeper in the league. We now have three decent centre-backs at this level in Legge, Smith and Kennedy. Crookes is solid enough and realistically we can't expect better.

 

In midfield, Conlon got better as the season went on and has a goal in him, usually a worldie, which is important for us, while getting Oyeleke signed up is big news for us. Let's just hope he has a bit more luck on the injury front next season. Joyce looked a decent League Two player once again under Askey and so did Worrall. I'd still like us to sign a genuine wide player with pace that can beat players, someone a bit more consistent than Montano, but I don't think we're too far away in that department.

 

Up front is where our obvious worries are. We need at least two more forwards, with one of them ideally having scored goals at the level in the past. A 20 goal striker can make all the difference, and be the difference between a mid-table finish and a genuine play-off challenge.

Yeah, that's a fair point. What I wanted to get across more than anything though was that we're only a few decent players short, as will be the case for the majority of sides in the league really. Crooks, Burgess and Kennedy is a little bit underwhelming so far so I just hope Askey has one or two irons in the fire.

Having followed this thread and reading all the posts (90% Ern :wink:), calling all our signings mediocre and the like, I would like to ask a general serious question:

 

Which player(s) would in YOUR mind, make you happy? You all speak of established names, big names etc. But who would, for you, tick all the boxes and make you happy? :smile:

Just so we all can get a general feeling, about what layer of players we are talking, to keep the masses happy. :yes:

Yes, it’s an interesting one. Our wide pitch may have a bearing, as may the fact that Vale fans crave wingers, something which Askey will be well aware of.

It’d be nice to recruit some out and out winger(s) with a bit of pace and trickery, to provide an alternative threat going forward to what we currently have, but, as we know, these players are in demand and cost money.

2 strikers and a pacey winger have got to be the main wanted list now I've looked at the released list but I don't know who most of the players are.

 

It’s not just released players we need to be interested in it’s players who have rejected new deals
