Who should we sign?

It’s a team game and the benefits are shared out between the squad. If I was a defender and scored a goal I would be happy that the forwards were being rewarded for my goal.Same as if I was a forward and cleared the ball off the line the defenders would get the benefit of a clean sheet.Over the season it would balance out between defenders and forwards and encourage players by getting extra pay from their efforts by scoring goals and keeping clean sheets and is self financing.

It also means that only players in the team get the benefits.

This has to be a wind up!! Nobody who has ever played football or had any involvement in football at any level could think in this way. Any tiny remnants of credibility have disappeared with this outrageous scribe. I will view any further contributions as insignificant on the basis of WUM or deluded.

how about a wild card someone who knows askey ,danny rowe who went to Ipswich(loose connection as they are now league 1) from macc think he is the age quoted,a forward,,went on loan to Lincoln-- not sure if he is available though but would fit in with some of the info

He thinks he has a chance of getting in their first time now they have been relegated but I do believe Askey has looked at him as a loan option

Bit old now (published six weeks ago) but interesting article here about Cullen.

https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/mark-cullen-reveals-blackpool-exit-while-ben-heneghan-placed-on-transfer-list-by-sheffield-united-1-9757237

Looks like Blackpool have given up on him ever regaining full fitness.

Bradford fans forum also speculating that they might sign him. They're saying because he's cheap, so right up our street too then.

Good scoring record if he can regain fitness, about 1 in 4.

Waking up to the news that Askey only wants 3 new signings has me a bit worried now.

Lloyd and Cullen are expected to sign then he just wants a RB, a GK and a winger.

It's fair to say that most of the signings we've made are "back up" signings so our first team has barely changed from the side that fought relegation last season.

I don't want to seem pessimistic but I don't think we've solved the problems we had last season.

I think you are misinterpreting what he said, he identified those as key areas for signings but didn't say that was it for new players.

I think we've got to continue to wait and see where we are in August.

I would expect Rawlinson and Whitfield to go, so that's another player or two to bring in as well.

If we can add another forward [like Cullen] to our ranks, along with Bennett and a quick winger, that should make us infinitely better than last year.

Hopefully Worrall and Monty can also have decent seasons.

We're getting there.

Personally (from a selfish point a view) I am very worried and underwhelmed with this summers transfer business. I don’t think we have strengthened much at all really. Hoping that our later business will surprise us all.

Why not just keep Whitfield and use the Lloyd money on signing a better winger?

We have signed back up players so far, not forgetting that our actual first 11 nearly got relegated last season.

Maybe so, but if we're talking about "main priorities" then for me it would be a natural LB + 2 pacey wingers right now.

Gibbons is a natural RB and good at this level, whereas at LB we only have Crookes who is a CB. Playing him there is akin to Aspin playing Rawlinson at RB last year.

If Askey sticks with his 433 system as expected, the two wide players will be the main source of creativity but at present we only have Worrall, the inconsistent Montano and Ryan Lloyd (assuming Whitfield goes). We will struggle for goals again if this isn't addressed. Harry Kane wouldn't score in this team without a good supply line.

I'm not panicking just yet, but my worry levels have gone up a bit.

Preseason starts in 2 days remember!
