just looked at the released list from leagues 1 and 2 and maybe the odd championship teams there are 100s being released we can surely get some good players from that lot

In addition to what's been said above, given the last two seasons Vale have just survived being relegated from the EFL so quality Lge 1/2 players will not be chomping at the bit to sign unless key signings can be lured by paying good salaries. Let's hope Askey can pick the players with the right chemistry to play together and form a good, solid team.

That's my thoughts, we need a group of player that work hard to become a successful team, a little bit of all the elements that make a successful group of footballers, training working hard for the manager, each other, the supporters and most of all our football club, we all need to stick together in this aim to have a better more successful season. Keeping positive regardless if results that may not always go our way, because l believe keeping positive regardless builds confidence in the players and confident players will win more games than they will lose, so keep the faith and keep believing, up the Vale

What in his career prior to Vale and after makes you think that? Around 30 games a season in the Dutch second division?

 

He looked good in league 1... would have been more than capable in league 2.

We played every team in the league twice that season plus cup games, there would have been scouts from all sorts of teams at various games depending on location but none of them showed any interest. Same with Norms other imported bargains. Being foreign doesn't make a player any better or worse than a UK player per se. That was the former owners mistake.

Turner was on peanuts compared to Knops but played a similar number of games for Vale. He is also young and still has chance to develop whereas Knops was already late 20s when he came to us.

Nobody is saying because he is foreign he’s a better player. He was actually a decent player that’s all.

Yep unfortunately there are going to be teams in our division that are likely to throw money at it again (without the real income to sustain it) and these sorts of players will follow the money. It's not a level playing field.

We must, however, invest as much money as possible into 2 strikers. It's the department that we have struggled with and we must rectify it. The problem we will face is that every club in our division is likely to be looking for the same thing.

Much as I moaned about defending we had one of the best defences and a goalie that finished with the third most clean sheets in the division. So we should strive to get back the defensive players who were on loan and perhaps a natural left back. That's 3 players. The rest is about midfield and attack. In fact we are probably OK for defensive midfield and I would go for three relatively expensive midfielders and attackers who will get goals. Then I would fill the squad with players of potential where the deal is you get the chance but we don't pay much.

Ajose is exactly the sort of player we want.

Seems to be a bit of a nomad recently, quality over quantity is the mandate.

Don't even have a clue on his wages so probably a dead duck already.

 

3 mediocre squad players on say 800 a week or one quality player on 2500 a week ?

 

As for Marshall that ship has sailed, wrong side of 30 now . Not for me thanks.
