Who should we sign?

No thanks. I'd prefer we didn't sign more players who are going to struggle to get through 30 games without being injured.

I saw a youtube clip of an interview with Graham Souness commenting on some team’s performance... he said, it’s a simple game - be first to the ball, all the ability in the world is worth zilch if you’re not first to the ball. I think we’ve got reasonable ability in the current squad but only when we were deeply in crisis were they first to the ball hence lapsing from midtable to relegation zone in the winter and Askey will have noted some substandard performances once we were mathematically safe. Regarding signings a couple in the mode of Griff would do me to up the ante on commitment. I know it’s an old Fergie cliche but we have lacked desire too often rather than quality at this level.

Out of contract on 30 June this year. Doubt if we'd go for him though because he's a like for like with Pope and couldn't see either settling for anything but first choice no 9. Could they play together?

Such a shame his career has hit the skids. If he could be bought cheaply, certainly. He was amazing for us in league 1. People forget what a great player he was.

I don't remember pope getting many goals at all whilst Richards was here.

 

In fact the summer Richards left us I had a bet with a mate that popey would get no more than 8 goals the following season.

 

I'd paid up by the Rotherham home game and pope got his 35 goals to send us up.

 

But whilst Richards was here I never thought tom looked a goalscorer.

I think people need to calm down a little... Carol (fingers crossed) will bring a sensible approach to running the vale, which is exactly what we need.

Pope and Richards were only at the club a season and a half together and Pope hardly scored in that time. It was only once Richards left that Pope scored regularly.

He's a goalscorer. If he didn't celebrate each and every goal he scored I'd be very worried about his profession. I'm sure it was simply personal joy and not to scorn Vale - He seemed to enoy his time here.

 

I also had no prboblem at all with Suarez celebrating his goal against Liverpool last week. He respresents that club now, and he said after the game it was simply because of the importance of the goal. When he scored Liverpool were very much in the game until that moment.

It will be good to see us signing players that we think may improve the current squad rather than cheap unwanted gambles which might make the owner money.
