Why did it take so long before Askey made a sub? Was he happy with what he was seeing?

I haven't read all of this thread, and probably won't, having watched that shower of sh*** yesterday, but I got the distinct impression that we didn't even try to win this match. Ruining Macc's 'Sir John' reputation by (possibly) helping to send them down didn't seem to be on the agenda.

Yet again, for the umpteenth time in the last three years, our midfield/wingers went missing and so we created zilch.

 

The gap between the isolated Pope and the rest was once more as wide as it was earlier on in the season because the 5-6 lads around him played too deep, were not as energetic or as committed as they needed to be, and consequently we were never at the races.

 

Pope did ok before the break and laid off 3-4 lovely passes but got no service into the box, was very much a lone striker again and was marked by 2-3 very tall centre backs who gave him nothing. It wasn't one of his better games but if he doesn't get any support because the lads around him fanny about and won't get up the pitch to help then what can he do?

 

3/4 of the team went through the motions and were not committed enough to win the game. Several ran around trying to look good but achieved nothing and never went past a man. Worrall, Monty, Hannant in particular. Conlon was in one of his fancy dan modes - look at me posing with the ball.

And the delivery from both full backs was poor. Clark was better than Crookes but after the break it's hard to recall either of them getting in a good cross or creating an overlap. Collectively our passing was poor. There must have been 12-15 passes that were too short/half-hearted and went astray. Too wet and windy for some of them to be bothered. Just let's get through 90 minutes, shower and go home. Not remotely good enough, lads.

 

I'd clear out most of that lot and if we only kept half a dozen out of our squad of over 30 I'd lose no sleep at all.

 

We need major changes, wholesale ones, if we are not to spend a fourth year on the bounce skirting around the bottom of the table.

 

The only good news is surely that Askey now has seen what we've all been watching for the past few years - a lot of very poor, weak, inconsistent players who are collectively nowhere near the level we should be aspiring to be.

a final though after last evenings post, apart from Brown and a couple of others, the "players" we've got were not even good enough to make the fix look convincing...

One of the worst things is lack of change in tactics. Today cried out for 442. Arthur has to mix it around. If we have the players available. Otherwise you just get predictable. No way was that a 433. Or 4132 or 4322 or any other bloody extension number. What Monty was doing I do not have a clue,

 

 

But Occam's Razor. We are crap because our players are not much use, and our owner is - not a nice man and our manager is a nice man

 

Why did it call out for 4-4-2?

The best thing about the match for me was watching their no. 10 moaning his bag off every time he didn't get the ball when they went forward. Something that made me smile, even if it was the only thing.

We need 3 strikers.

Pope isn’t getting any younger and we can’t rely on him. Miller is a junkie who needs shipping out the club. Dan Turner is not fancied and in my opinion not good enough anyway. Danny Eliot runs a lot with little quality. Dior Angus is unproven.

There isn’t 25 goals between that lot in one season.

Turner, Eliot, Miller out. Angus sign up if he’s very cheap and get in two minimum quality strikers who have done it at the level.

we need a huge clear out and bring in players to suit the style Askey wants to play not just any tom dick or harry, a smaller better squad as well

We will only play one up front which is why I think only need 1 striker with Pope an impact player. I don't disagree about Miller & Turner but I'm assuming Miller will still be at the club. If we do manage to offload him then yes we will definitely need another. I think Elliot might be an interesting project to keep around. If we can improve his decision making then we could have a decent squad who would be quite versatile in Askey system.

 

Never seen Anhgus play so can't really comment on him.

Thank you for explaining this to me, so someone has come to the conclusion that I’m someone else, who I can say I’ve never heard of. As a result of this I get an uncomplimentary comment made towards me.

What is the point of having a so called fans forum when an individual is rude to another contributor.

I thought it was to hear others opinions and the fact that they have the right to voice their opinion without having to suffer abuse.
