Match Thread - Port Vale v Macclesfield Town

Aren't we somewhat doing before this game, what we accused Aspin of doing after the away game? Building Macc up to be world beaters?

They are where they are in the table, for a reason.

I know motivation can be a factor, as they have everything to play for and we have nothing table wise. But if we can play like have done for the last many matches (bar the odd glitches), I can't see them beating us. All depends if we catch our stride from the of.

Be aware tomorrow if travelling from Newcastle or the D Road, Newcastle street is closed, and to compound matters they have now closed one side of Trubshaw Cross roundabout, this is being controlled by temporary lights, today it was chaotic.

The road appears to be blocked by portacabins. So

From trubshaw cross you can either go left into Elgrave St or turn right into Newport lane and then left up furlong lane to bypass the block.

Can go to the next junction of the 500 and loop up around and come out at the top of Hamil Road I guess.

He

We have a truly shocking home record. Yeovil (on 20) and Notts County (on 21) have fewer points than us (we're on 24) but we have lost more than any other club, with 12 league defeats. Only two other clubs are in double figures with Yeovil and Morecambe on 10 apiece. No wonder gates have just gone down and down when the odds on seeing your team win are so long. Talk about long-suffering.

By contrast, Morecambe have the worst away record in L2 with just 4 wins, 3 draws and 15 defeats with a GD of -18, and just 15 points on the road.

So whether they're desperate for points, whether it represents a sporting dilemma for Arthur, or whether it's the last game of the season when we're already safe, this is one we should be going all out to win. We need to improve our appalling home record, which would go some way to make up for the dross we've had to put up with all season, and set ourselves up for next with a fine win against, to put it mildly, mediocre opponents. Losing to Macc, with their record, would be a truly dismal end to the season's home fixtures.

Another MKD performance please, in terms of effort, but this time with a win.

The poor home record is because all the Managers have set up not to lose instead of trying to win.

Usual negative team selection with one up front inviting the opposition to come forward and put us under pressure.

who is staying after the game to give Askey and Kevan the round of applause they deserve for doing what a lot of us including myself thought wasn't going to happen. Askeys black and white army

Would love to ba able to get to this one, but work comes first, sadly! Considering some of our thicker-than-mince "fans" were screaming "we're DEFINITELY going down" and "we're doomed Capt Mainwaring! I think Askey and Kevan have done an extraordinary job, under difficult circumstances, and deserve every second of any standing ovation. Wonder where we might have finished had Askey not continued Aspo's vein of form, those few first matches?
