Credit wheres credit due. An awful lot of criticism when these two were appointed. They have walked into an truly awful situation at vale park, under performing squad, who we all said weren't good enough. The protests outside the ground, although not aimed at the management team, still cant be nice. These guys rocked up at vale park and it must be the first time I've ever known a new manager not introduced to the crowd. Somehow, they have managed to turn an awful team into a team that can compete and pick up points. Love to know what they've done to Dave worrall, hes like a new player. Well done and thank you John n Dave.

I thought he’d bottled it after those first three games. Still not sure what happened, but since he’s started to play his way, its all been good. We’ve gone from worrying about if it was going to be a disaster to worrying if we will hold on to him.

Oldham interested in him apparently. Hope Vale being local to him is worth more; no doubt they'd pay at least twice as much as Smurthwaite is prepared to pay him.

There was an online article, possibly in The Guardian, where a university had researched what makes a successful manager. Statistically your more likely to be successful;

1 if you never played league football

2 if you started managing outside league football

It's not that straightforward as its only the most successful non league footballers who make the leap. It's certainly not true that appointing an experienced manager always brings results.

Probably becasue they have to learn their trade gradually instead of jumping in at the top based on a playing reputation as opposed to management.

I can't see Smurthwaite being a Guardian reader myself.

I wouldn’t count on that even given Smurthwaite’s past record. I know someone who worked for Oldham about 3 years ago and they still owe him some mileage expenses.

Once he dumped Aspin’s 5 at the back we have looked a different team. What a difference it makes to have an outlet when we win the ball. All coupled with Manny, Conlan & Joyce showing an upturn in form once they were playing in their favoured positions. Aspin obviously did not rate Worrall who has shown more improvement than anyone.

Can see us topping 50 points which will see us safe. Then the hard work starts with Smugthwaite.

We also have to remember that he is doing what he is doing with not ONE player at the club being his,so please please let a takeover happen and make signing him up a priority(he says himself he wants to be here) and lets see what he can build.

Wow imagine a summer with a new owner and the chance to build,i am certain people would snap up season tickets....lets make this reality please
