Sentinel: Norman Smurthwaite says Asian consortium is ready to pay £2.8m for Port Val

Agreed. We have a multi-millionnaire in charge and the club has simply declined under his ownership. It's not about how much cash you have it's about how big your business brain is and how you are prepared to use it.

I see REP's best mate and business guru, Andy Holt, is reported in the Senintel this morning as saying Mr Smurthwaite is daft for getting involved in fights with the fans.

Apparently it was just an emotional and ill-advised outburst after fans 'prodded the bear'. We'll all be storming Synectics offices if we're not top of the table in six months time, apparently.

As long as the protests at Synectics are peaceful that’s your right.

Does anyone really think Smurf, yes even Smurf is daft enough to put a currently solvent business into admin rather than sell it when there are clearly a variety of potential buyers interested according to the CEO?

It’s amazing some don’t believe a word that Smurf says but they choose to believe his emotional rant at the weekend.

Irrational outburst is probably accurate..... but then he is an irrational person.

If he has a master plan, which I doubt, why screw it up by broadcasting it, why not keep quiet and execute it?..... far better for him if people don't know he intends to liquidate the club... it gives them far less time to react and plan.... it's irrational.

If he is daft enough to do some of the things he has done and say some of the things he has previously said..... then yes..... stupidity seems to rule in the kingdom of Smurf

Spot on because he’s never going to realistically liquidate, all he was trying to do was get some emotional support (fail) and gather interest from potential buyers (achieved). He’s given them a fake deadline and is now using the Asian’s whether they exist or not to bump up the price. We’ve all tried to bump up the worth of something in the past whether selling a house, negotiating a salary or indeed selling something on gumtree.

He needs the local press to communicate these tricks to get the highest price possible.

I'm still not discounting the possibility that Norman announces on the 5th May he couldn't see the club be sold to this devious Asian Consortium, and says he'll stay on at the club to right his wrongs and prevent administration. Sweetie Jar for Askey, who gets given a bumper 30k 6 month deal, and we make a good go at retaining Manny, extending Conlon's contract.

I'm not saying its likely, but I can quite vividly picture the radio phone in from Alicante, Sangria on tap.

This is exactly what I think the outcome will be. A statement in early may informing us that nobody has sufficient funds to buy the club. Followed by, for the good of the club and a gesture of goodwill, I will continue to finance the club until a suitable buyer is found. Triggering sentinel headlines " Norman saves the vale again!!"
