Mr Smurthwaite's games begin........

Recommended Posts

Do you not think that people who have been as successful so as to have the money to buy a football club are not good negotiators .

Really some of the comments on here border on childish !

our current owner hasnt negotiated very well with his customers, so no.

I suppose it depends on what basis the ground is rented. If they were to pay, for example £120k a year in rent but keep all the income from the concourse and Enterprise Centre along with all football income, wouldn't that be a decent deal if it gave the buyer more initial capital to work with? Won't happen of course!

I don't think it would Jean... it restricts development of new or existing income streams.

So Smurtwaite leaves .. there are new owners .. and then you want the fans to start telling the new owners what they should do !

Priceless !

Yes but is Smurthwaite actually leaving if he keeps the ground. We want to see the back of him so he can’t hold the club to ransom .Why should he be allowed to receive 2.8 million for the club when he only paid 1.2 million for the club and ground.

The potential owners mustnt have the finance to buy the club and ground or are very silly. So how much will they be able to spend on the team.

At least SS are clever enough to know that the club is worth nothing without the ground.

So you would be happy for the new owners not to own the ground would you Einstein.

Just thinking outside the box for a moment: When Norman was stated as not being concerned about ST sales there's no way he was privy to the EFL's change of heart re. Coventry - is there?

After all he is a landlord with 'a room to let'.

Given the context of his recent threat, I suspect he has long planned to leave us in the lurch and that's why he wasn't/isn't bothered about season ticket sales.

I'm now convinced his "meltdown" was a smokescreen and thus an Oscar-winning performance.

It speaks volumes about his character, that's for sure.

Thinking about it Coventry have to let EFL know on 25th April where they intend to stage home games next season.

He has given a date of May 5th for us to find a buyer.

By 25th he will know if Coventry at VP or not.

If not he will probably sell the lot to SS or whoever else who is interested.

If Coventry choose VP he will probably sell to the Asians as he calls them and keep the ground.

If that happened Norman will have rent from Coventry for the ground but also rent from Nuneaton s ground as they will be using that for training.

I may be way off here but this is my opinion putting two and two together.

Is it coincidence that the directors loans and "Asian bid" are similar amounts. Maybe he is planning to write off the directors loan by saying that someone has bought the club but then keeping it. Just needs a front man. Then he can own Vale and Nuneaton without anyone knowing. Not that he owns Nuneaton of course, that would be wrong.

A couple of Coventry fans on there forum have mentioned a possible ground share with us.

Originally they were told they could move 6 miles from the city. The League have now extended that to 50 miles. Vale Park is over 60 miles from Coventry. There's an interesting poll in the Coventry Telegraph which shows Vale is not a very popular option!
