Mr Smurthwaite's games begin........

Recommended Posts

Oh yes it is he can pull the plug on the deal and blame the supporters or anyone except himself.

At least as there has been no announcement they are still negotiating.

Hopefully it will be announced this week and we can have a Norman’s leaving party at the Macclesfield game.

I was referring to the fit and proper test which is done by the EFL,Ernie.

I totally agree he won't like the thought of people celebrating his departure at a home game, even though he's proved time and again he doesn't care what people say or think about him.

I think some people are worrying too much about his hanging on. He's not going to scupper a multi-millionaire deal over the reaction of fans. Indeed he'll be loving the thought of fans being under his thumb and holding their collective tongue.

Forget that. Let's party!

Totally agree with that! He won't let the fans celebrate his departure, at Vale Park! And on that single sentiment, I can't blame him. Name one person, who would like to see their departure turned into a party, if they have control over it, no matter what the relationship is.

So hopefully we'll get an announcement before the Bury game (well there would have to be one, either way it's going), so hopefully we can celebrate at Bury!

Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite says he is not planning to make an offer for League Two rivals Notts County.

Smurthwaite has attended a number of County games lately and says he may also be at their home game with Grimsby on Saturday.

However, he says this is largely because County are close to his home in Leicestershire and he is staying away from Vale home games following protests against him.

Reports say Smurthwaite has expressed an interest in buying County, but he says he's just there to watch football.

He said: "I live close to the club and I have been watching some games because it was felt I shouldn't go to home games at Port Vale because it gives them a security headache.

"I will be there again this Saturday watching a game of football and I will be going to MK Dons on the last game of the season to watch them play Mansfield so hopefully they get promoted.

"I have no intention of making an offer for Notts County, but that doesn't say I won't go and watch a bit of football there."

I don't believe him.

Some indication about how the sale is progressing would be very welcome, whether it's positive or negative.

Non disclosure agreement? The deal isnt going awry and Smurf wont be here next season. I am pretty confident we are solely waiting on the EFL approval now which I doubt will be far away. Patience people, our club is nearly purs again.

I'm just totally baffled, about his continues statements.

As an owner, he couldn't take 3 games of "get out of our club" and ONE red card protest?

This surely has to be the shortest owner vs fans war in history?

Has there been anything else going on, other than the protests at games? Or is he really just THAT vain?

I'm in no way, shape or form complaining he will be gone! BUT, I'm just absolutely baffled, that it was that easy... 2 games, and he makes the "administration" speech on Radio Stoke?

The timeline of this, is just so so so so strange!

To me, the protests was just a handy excuse for him, to do what he had planned to do for a long time.

I suspect you are right Danish Valiant. None of it makes any sense, unless of course he incorrectly but genuinely believed he was doing a good job and had Vale's best interests at heart. The other possible suggestion is there has been external pressure put on him from family, solicitors, the Football League to get out before anything more serious comes to light...

Ding ding ding ding!! I dont think the EFL take kindly to threats of administration against any of its clubs.

To calm some nerves:

Sounds as if he won't be coming back. Was only at MK as its down the road, and he can't come to Vale home games.

I absolutely believe in the North/South divide but I'm pretty sure Milton Keynes isn't in a foreign country, which is where Norm said he was seeing out the sale.

I wouldn't trust a word he says. He's bullsh***ed his way through his entire tenure, he isn't going to stop now.
