Mr Smurthwaite's games begin........

New grounds cost lots of money

I read an example somewhere of £18 million, of which £9 million was funded. That leaves £9 million to find, we're not going to find it ergo norm gets his rent if we go onto admin. The steward who works in a bar, unfortunately knows what he's doing.

I have long advocated for a new ground for us, Vale Park no longer suits our purpose and as much as I would love to see Vale back in the Championship, I don’t honestly think I will see it again, something along the lines of Shrewsbury’s ground (but with corners filled in) would far better suit our needs and what is more, we would not be tenants of Smurf....

I'd love us to get the club back, spend 18 months playing somewhere else and move to a brand new smaller stadium with state of the art conference and hospitality facilities with good car parking. The tighter atmosphere would help the players, the facilities, properly marketed, would add value to the squad and club.

This may be the opportunity to do that, blessing in disguise maybe, although it will cost a lot.

Threats against any person are wrong, anyone who threatens Norm with anything beyond words and protests are not only acting as rank bad cads but are also fuelling his current hate for the club.

We are right, he is wrong, take the moral high ground and don't let your anger make you into someone you don't want to be.

Most sensible post I’ve seen for a while mate.

I couldn't agree more. The football club makes a loss, he props it up with directors loans, which he aims to get back via a sale. In the meantime the stadium business pulls in cash with very few outgoings and he's laughing. I'm sure he's made enough from the ground to cover any and all money he's loaned to the football club side. If we go into admin he, graciously, wipes out his loans in the knowledge that anyone buying the club from the administrator's will (almost 100%) have to rent the ground off him and as part of that rental agreement deal the buyers will have to forego concession and function sales to Norm.

Any purchase price for the club and the ground before may 5th will be high to reflect the income he's planning on taking from the ground if the club does end up in admin.

The man's an Asset & Soul Stripping genius.

This post is absolutely bang on, this being the plan all along. What can be done? At all costs we must break free of all Smurthwaite connections. I assume Synectics know this but may be powerless. I do hope I'm wrong.

He has to sell the club rather than put it in administration because otherwise he would not have a tenant to use the ground.

He seems to think he has the new buyer over a barrel but if they did actually move the football club to another ground how will he raise any income without the football club.

It would cost him a fortune to demolish the ground and build Norman Towers on the ground with money that I don’t think he really has.

That’s right. Unless of course he is trying behind the scenes to get coventry in that ground.

It's no use knocking if theres no one in,some and there aren't many left now, have backed themselves into a corner and can't be seen to admit that Smurthwaite is just a complete joke and a dangerous one at that.

Mario, you need to read and digest posts more closely. Are the lights on in your empty house?

You may have a point, but this is football and such that will fall on deaf ears. For some people PVFC means an awful lot - whether that's a good/bad thing is always up for debate. I recall certain people sneering on here at folk willing to go that extra mile for their FC. Emotion will always get the better of some folk in these circumstances.

With regards to these threats - does anyone honestly believe that Smurthwaite had (at one time) a love for the club and then began to hate us all when it all went **** up and he started to receive criticism? That is fantasy land.

This has been his plan all along. Nothing we can do will ever change his end game. So, its a choice of ploughing on regardless and tickling his belly, or adding further fuel to the fire and pressuring him into further mistakes. Nothing will change his end game - it was decided before he even step foot in the place.

I don't think he's ever had an evil master plan, he's just making it up as he goes along based on emotion/ego/greed. But he definitely split the club from the ground all them years ago in order to protect himself and give himself greater control.

Smithies oft quoted comment of his makes perfect sense now though doesn't it - "I not bothered about ST sales" - because he knew he wouldn't be at VP in June. He knew ST sales would collapse and he really would have to start funding the club - time for the exit door.

I don't think he joins up his statements in any cohesive beneficial manner.

He seems to run his mouth about something, then runs his mouth about something else with no joined up bit being considered.... basically he just gobs off about anything he fancies at the time without considering the crap he has previously gobbed off about.

People are possibly linking unrelated incidents to make things sensible.... I don't think he is.

I personally think that some people underestimate him. He may appear like a bumbling idiot but people with his intentions will try to confuse and divide the fan base in order to give him extra time to carry on with the plan he came here to execute. He is more than likely highly experienced in this practice as well. This makes him highly dangerous. I still believe the way to defeat him in any negotiation is to make him aware that we are willing to make sacrifices in order to leave him with nothing. In this instance we need to make him realise that we could simply walk away, resulting in him being lumbered with a rotting, tenant free VP.

As a fan base, are we willing to do this?
