Gateshead FC

According to the North Eastern paper the Sunday Sun, Mr Smurthwaite is expressing an interest in buying Gateshead FC. I can't find the newspaper link - it will turn up eventually on http://www.icnewcastle.co.uk - but this is from the Gateshead forum:

"Sunday Sun states plenty of interest.

Football agents Moure and Piechniczek have been negotiating for 4 months. They are frustrated as process has dragged on and refuse to deal with Cala. " Cala has no legal ownership over the Club and we will not be communicating with him. Ideally we would like to be in by the end of March so we could plan for next season" They haven't seen the accounts and will do nothing until the debt is established.

An Australian Consortium is believed to be looking at the situation.

Port Vale owner, Norman Smurthwaite, has also declared an interest. ( Smurthwaite is as unpopular at Port Vale as Cala is at Gateshead )

Either lazy journalism or putting two and two together and making five, Neil Aspin having come from there.

Or, he's interested but knows he has to divest himself of PVFC first so as not to be in trouble with the football authorities. Do it now Norman.

Whether the story is true or not whether the story is lazy journalism (Why would you pick his name out of the hat)I dont believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

And if he did contact Gateshead he will have forgotten by now,his denials mean nothing,he can't lie straight in bed.

Odd how he's happy to comment on Gateshead but not Port Vale.

Agree.

I'm hoping he takes the Synectics offer or negotiates a sale, it's the best he will get and he's shrewd enough to know that. He would hope to pick Gateshead up on the cheap as he did us. I can dream can't I. Money talks to Smurthwaite - cash is King!

Does anyone know what business interest Smurf has in the Northeast, when he came to the Vale he said he was a Sunderland fan, it was also said he tried to purchase Darlington FC, just making me think, why the Northeast, when he lives in the southeast midlands.
