I'm with you mate i was confused.

Apparently it is the 3 keepers from his League clubs Chesterfield, Leicester, Stoke , not sure why Hart instead of Pickford though with regards to England.

Though again Anyon isn't currently number one at Chesterfield.

Joe Anyon to be one of the 4 goalkeepers carrying Gordon Banks coffin today.

Butland

Kasper Schmeichel

Joe Hart

Anyon

What an honour .

With that quartet there must have been a real danger of them freaking at the sight of a cross at the church.

There were 4 other 'keepers there as well.

All greats in their time.

Clemence, Shilton, Seaman and Jennings.

Nice to see them out in force.

I haven't seen much of Pat Jennings, one of the few 'keepers to have scored a goal.

Shilton was of course the reason why Banks ended up down the road with the Prize Bully’s.

At the time, Leicester thought that Banks was too long in the tooth and saw Shilton as his natural replacement.

As I remember, Banks wasn’t too impressed that Leicester were even considering replacing him, so jumped ship as soon as he could and joined Waddo’s old folks home for waifs and strays at the Victoria Ground.

I heard rumours that Banks consequently didn’t “get on” with Shilton. How true it is, I don’t know.

However, another sad loss from the football era of my youth.

Anyon plays for Chesterfield but his Stoke ties through Vale probably clinched it.

I remember reading the Morecambe programme 2 weeks back that Banks had vale connections and was a coach at the club for a short period.

He was indeed - I commented on this in the Gordon Banks RIP thread.

Alex Stepney was there as well.
