Match Thread - Port Vale v Mansfield Town

We just need one of those strange results where we somehow win against a top side. A bit like when we beat Lincoln the other year 1-0 when everyone wrote us off.

After stopping the rot so to speak against Notts county we need two positive results now starting with Saturday.

It would feel so much better if we could get 4 huge points.

Mansfield will more than fancy their chances and will at least come to play football.

It's a freebie as far as I am concerned as we on paper should get beaten. However bottom against top is often a weird game and there's no reason why we can't get a result.

If Mansfield start on -1 we have a great chance of winning.

However, I did spot last Saturday, we actually fielded a sensible team. Maybe I should be more optimistic.

Really sensible leaving 3 attacking players on the bench

and Pope up front on his own.No difference than Baldrick Brown and Aspin.

You say that but Montys had so many chances it’s unreal and I can see why both him and Whitfield haven’t been regulars because they don’t produce it enough and we’ve carried them in games. I certainly wouldn’t start both of them together. However if they are to make any impact there’s no point bringing them on in the 80th minute. No matter what anyone says about Saturdays team selection we created some really good chances, enough to have won the game.

I can’t see Hannant being dropped for Mansfield, they’ve got a decent right back who likes to get forward and I’m not sure monty is disciplined enough to put that shift in there. For me the only change I’d make to the starting 11 from County is Gibbons for Clark.

I tend to agree with your team choice, but how many times has a really decent performance been followed the next game with the same Team? Our inconsistency worries me so I wouldn't put it past Askey to again change things about.

There haven't been many decent performances under Askey until this one. Injuries aside don't think we've changed teams after a win this season, the inconsistency is the same players have been pants in the next game.

IMHO, Askey seriously has to consider giving Miller a chance down the middle alongside Popey in a 4-4-2. Leave out either Conlon or Hannant to accommodate Miller depending how Mansfield set up. Vale have got to start winning games.

I agree, he scored yesterday in the reserves against a strong Wigan side, I think Conlon coming back to is best

From earlier part off the season.
