I'm playing devil's advocate here ...

I thought the sentinel took the photo n printed it not the board. Now I'm playin devils advocate because I'm neither for or against the board.

Just don't think they can b held responsible for a photo in the the local media rag, Jim Gannon's p**s poor man management, social skills, personality, unprofessionalism or team selection. The man dug his own grave long may he rest in it.

I work in the NHS. If i had been involved in a high profile dispute with a senior manager which had resulted in me being asked to stay away from work, and i then returned (with permission) acting the oilcan. I dont think i'd last long.

Bye Bye The Goon and the rest, lets get some top tunes on

I don't think any of the management "team" have come out of the last 2 months with much credit to be honest.

As I said elsewhere, Gannon's success at Stockport appeared to be based on his bad cop being counteracted by Peter Ward's good cop. At Vale, he didn't have a good cop to do that job, he had a bloke who wanted his job and an ex-goalkeeper who by definition will be barking mad! So we were stuck with Gannon, (does anyone else think he may be autistic - very bright but absolutely no social skills?). Add to this an Assistant Manager who comes out and bad mouths his boss in the car park to anyone who will listen and a third member of the team who says he wants nowt to do with the boss and disappears back to the Youth team.

All of this compounded by a Chairman/Board of Directors who couldn't make a difficult decision if their lives depended on it. What made them think Gannon and Horsfield could work together after Busgate and what had preceded it? Gannon was a bit of a maniac but to be honest, I'd have been furious about that in his position - it shows a total lack of support for him from the Board. Add to this his claims that he was lied to by the Board when he joined the club and you begin to think that Saturday's team selection might well have been a suicide note.

Very sad.

It's all past now, but I can't help thinking that even if JG has the capability to manage personnel his appointment was on a hiding to nothing given all that is happenining in the Hamil because, as others have alluded, the 'Board continue to lurch from crisis to crisis and seem not to learn from past errors.

Then again, and playing the Devil's Advocate, could it be that certain 'Board members do these things to deflect the focus and limelight onto others. =b=

Far too much player power at the club

Horsfield shouldn't have been allowed back in the setup, if he hadn't we would be sitting better IMO.

I can't honestly put any trust in Mark Grew (I remember Orient away) to steer our promotion bid but that is what we have come to - a management duo of virtually no experience for the final 10 or so games.

spot on players taking the **** at the club , clearly not fit on that performance and grew is not the man to take us up , should have changed it at half time lucky to get a point.

That sums up exactly what I was thinking.....it really is a mess, it needs a clean sweep.... but will that happen? ===

Great post. He had no support whatsoever. But on the other side... he shouldn't get this job in the first place... not right now, not in the middle of a season. We can't hire someone like him and expect him to be the new Micky Adams. It was obvious he will change things, play his way... and it might (and did) end in a backfire. Our board = lack of imagination. ===

I was earwigging a converstion between a couple of blokes in the Railway tonight, Sonny. One of them said that the trouble with the Board was that they were reactive, they waited for things to happen then reacted to them - they didn't actually plan for the future or were proactive at all.

So will we get a clean sweep? I suspect they haven't even bought the brush yet!!

Very sad indeed..one of my mates actualy asked Gannon at half time if he thought this would be his last game incharge,to which he replyed "i hope so" if like most on your forum have said his selection for this game was not with the strongest side available he must have been desperate to get the sack..All the best for the rest of the season you never no we might meet again at old trafford:)

It amazes me how many people were getting excited that grew was taking charge. Yes gannon had to go (I genuinely think the man has some mental issues), but the reality is that we are now in a worse postion, having to pay out compo, and have the management team no one wanted when adams left. We now have the 'cheap option', back to the old boys club (jackson will be happy), and a lack of discipline that harks back to the glover days. And lets not pretend that if gannon does take a decent pay off with him, the board will be wanting to appoint grew full time. We also have a threadbare coaching set up, which must stretch the coaches far too thin, but we cannot afford to bring any more in. We have also sent two loan players back, and will not replace them. Everything has been said about the board that needs saying, and now they seem to be wanting to appoint one of their mates to CEO. The club is a shambles from top to bottom, and I am ready to call it a day.

Mark Grew should not even be at the club, nevermind in the position now of caretaker manager.

Mark Grew's thrown his toys out of the pram how many times under every single manager under Valiant 2001 stewardship?

How many times have we heard that Grew's had enough of the first team and is going back to coach the youth team which he "dearly loves"?

How many manager's did Grew undermine, Foyle to an extent, Sinnott, Glover and now Gannon.

Since be head of the youth team set up, how many players have been produced that have gone on to better things than Port Vale or even made 50 odd plus appearances for Port Vale?

But more importantly, apart apart from a short spell under Adams, the football since Valiant2001 took over been totally dire which Grew's been assistant manager to whoever the manager's been throughout this Valiant2001 period.

Bearing all that in mind, Valiant2001 always insist that when appointing a new manager, part of the deal is that they have to work with Grew, but why?

If Grew doesnt like the manager then basically the manager doesnt stand a chance

Jacko 51 Good post , agree the board and management have acted very poorly over the last few months [ years for the board ]but dont you think the players have more to answer for than anyone in the coming few weeks. OK last night Grew chose to play with no wide men and , for me , failed to change it but Yates Collins Roberts Dodds, Loft [first half ] Richards and Richards didnt exactly show pride and commitment for the cause.

Reckon if JG had come in post Glover or post Sinnot and shook things up he'd have had a lot of support from the fans. He'd have had a free reign to dismantle and rebuild, and I reckon fans at that time would have backed him and applauded his bull in a china shop approach.

There is a lot more than just JG's abrasive character to this story. I think it will come out in time, and I reckon a lot of un-professionalism from a lot of people with big ego's has been prevalent.

Why do you critise Grew for tell it how it was at Leyton Orient.
