Smurthwaite breaks silence.......

You're blaming Richards because he was desperate to come and play for Vale? How anyone can defend the club in these circumstances is seriously beyond belief. No excuse what so ever. It's transfer deadline day. Transfers happen right up to 11, and beyond so long as initial forms are in. It's 2019, paperwork can be sent anywhere in the world instantly. Richards was in Swindon at 8.30pm, not Australia. Were our staff sitting around at Vale waiting for a proven goalscorer stroll up Hamil Road?

No excuse, the whole saga shows the club is lazy and unprofessional. That approach filters through from the top. We're an embarrassment.

Bit harsh that. We only had another 30 days and 23 hours in which this could have been sorted. Lay off "Smurf", he saved us you know.

The thing is Richards would of given a bit of a feel good factor despite his age. Did he not notch a couple last week?

It is beyond belief that we decided at 70 miles per hour Richards wouldn't of made it.

It's 2019 technology and nous enabled the likes of Crawley to sign a player at 16-15 pm yesterday. A good 17 hours after the deadline.

There are ways and means, any blame directed at Richards is unbelievable .

The whole deadline day smacks of our clown playing stupid beggars on Football manager and randomly googling stuff to sign players

The usual 'poor me' 'you're damaging the club' 'it's not my fault' deflectionist drivel Smurthwaite resorts to every now and then, when things start to get a bit hot.

We have no manager, no ground (owned, that is), no saleable assets on the pitch - and the way we're going, we'll shortly have no league status either.

He is killing the club. Right in front of our eyes. But, instead, some people find a former Vale stalwart to blame for not resigning in the last nano second of the transfer window. I mean, really?

Exactly! Isn't it strange how he's kept his mouth shut, for a change, prior to the transfer window closing. How convenient for that £400, 00 that he was never going to give any manager. He's elusive to the media who've been trying to get a statement from him and he suddenly appears and starts his campaign against the fans. The fans are 100 % behind the players and whoever manages the team at the moment. We've done it before, when Micky Adams assembled his team and they played for nothing. Companies House makes interesting reading, as he's either dissolved all companies, or he is the sole director. We must all stand together for the survival of Port Vale FC and hope a new buyer comes along, even a consortium! !!

He wanted to get Rico on the cheap on a short contract by asking him to terminate his Swindon contract.

What’s wrong with emailing the contract.

He could have sent Garlick to meet him half way.

But he kept Garlick at Vale in case he got any last minute offers for our players.

With regards to the Hugill payments I for the life of me can't see that in the cash rich age of The Premier League that West Ham paid Preston in installments ?

Wouldn't surprise me if we had the full lot in one go and also the Alnwick money from Rangers.

Some of West Ham players are on close to 9 million a year on wages I'd imagine ( Arnautovic ) , yet apparently they pay Preston in dribs and drabs ?

Sproson is in the sentinel today saying that he represents Crookes and although he doesn't represent the other lad from Forest, he did recommend him.

He also said that we were in for experienced league strikers and were prepared to pay significant proportions of wages in loan deals. He has also been asked for advice on the manager position.

I think it's mainly to do with the financial fair play rules I.e. the transfer fee costs are in instalments over a number of years so there isn't any spikes that would breach the rules.

Is there any other reason for Gorman staying around except to get his grubby hands on the Hugill money?

Unless he enjoys bird spotting in Hamil Road.
