We ought to be taking the advice of footballing people in the know - like Rudgie and Sproson and their ilk - and then sitting down and sensibly trying to get the best candidate for the job, not the cheapest one.

Any other ambitious, well run club would realise that an experienced, proven manager is worth his weight and gold and even if it meant paying above the odds it would be worth it in the long run.

The three obvious names - all out of work - but with proven track records of success at our level - are Hurst, Clarke and Bowyer. Money talks and they are all on the market.

We've got it wrong three times in a row and can't afford to make the same mistake again.

A good manager will prove his worth and is the most important person at the Club. But they don't come cheap so I'm not holding my breath.

The obvious ones want higher level jobs.

That last time we paid the going rate for a manager was Micky Adams - who in his second spell was on c£130k. As we all know he took a club in administration with a bunch of late in the day free transfer signings and got us promoted.

You get what you pay for - we pay next to nothing so we get next to nothing.

The problem is Gorman still thinks he is a clever business man and needs to prove he has got a bargain.

That’s the same with players contracts.

He makes them wait until the end of the season then cuts their wages.

Everyone except Gorman knows if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

According to RS Hurst and Bowyer have been approached and both have said they are not interested.

If it’s true that he really is offering

With respect, there are people at local call centres earning more than that.

If this is proved to be the case then I’ll not be attending anymore, because there’s only one calibre of manager that a salary of that size will attract.

No club in league 2 will be paying their manager £25k a year including Port Vale.

Some of the postings are becoming farcical.

Are you sure? I heard we offered Askey a case of Tango and 2 Double Deckers. I have this from a reliable source, mind you :banghead:

In case you haven't noticed, 80 pct of the users on here, are actually in the room, negotiating with candidates. At least, that's what they wan't you to believe. Or a least, any given candidate, will go straight out the room, and phone Billy Bob down the boozer, and give him every single detail of the contract at offer.

Hurst and Bowyer out of work not interested according to RS,Askey approached again ?not interested, so if the Vale are offering the going rate why is nobody interested ? if according to you it's not the money what could possibly be putting these managers off ?
