Match Thread - Port Vale v Carlisle United

Just watched the replay. Red all day long.

No need to go in like that and what was the point? So they’d get another throw in. Absalute rubbish from miller. Garbage.

I've watched it over and over again now and still don't think it's a foul let alone a red.

I think the clear message is don't press the reply button if you are wound up or inebriated, however much the result today hurts.

Without Pope we have no focal point and aerial power in our attack, let alone goals.

The problem we've had for 3 years now is a lack of threat in the final third. Little creativity or guile. Not much pace. And, Pope apart, no goals.

Manny, Hannant, Joyce, Oyeleke, Miller & Kay will not get near double figures if they all play until they're 60.

The only one in the past three seasons who had anything about him was Eagles. All the others we've signed have been poor (ranging from Barnett & Forrester to Kanu & Quigley).

The lack of movement, guile, pace and goal threat is frightening. We'd struggle with this powder puff lot in the National League.

I really do think that the next 5 days will make or break our season. With Pope out we have to find another couple of players at least who can help us to create and score a few goals. If not, I can't see where we can win another 5-6 games.

The fat lady is clearing her throat.

Just listened to ours and their managers interviews after the game, interesting to hear theirs say how they tried to keep things tight and compact first half to deny us any space, which in the main they did. They were a good side and sometimes people forget there are 2 teams on the pitch, we aren’t just going to easily be able to do what we want to do. It was also interesting to hear his reasoning for their half time sub, bringing on a more tricky player who he thought could unlock us with some trickery. That’s the kind of thing we need, a player who out of nothing has the potential to do something to hurt the opposition in a footballing sense. Do we have one? By contrast Apsin sounded absolutely defeated, down and out in his interview.

Just a quick way of getting rid, will tidy in a bit.

The nearest we’ve got is probably Ben Whitfield. Hoping his injury prevents him leaving. Aspin must be mad to even consider letting him go.

Exactly my point! Every team needs their smiths and gibbons and kays who’ll dig in and do the other side of the game. But there is no way a team can do without a sprinkling of player like a Whitfield to add that bit of something else.

I stayed behind and clapped them off today, because the 10 who finished the game gave it everything and truly deserved a point today.

Totally agree. Just a pity all that hard work was undone for a split second with a player switching off for the runner off him and they get a lucky double deflection. Gutting.

How?

You can’t tackle like that in modern day football. Absalutley no need to do it. What was the point? We would’ve given away a throw in that’s it. Just stand him up, you can’t go in with so much force nowadays.

Agreed. For the first time in a long time walked out thinking we should have had something from that. Thought they were really poor if I’m honest, not what I expected of a top 4 team.
