Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has told the media that Lewis Hardcastle will end his loan spell with Port Vale. Hardcastle joined the Valiants on loan in August in a deal which was set to last until the end of the season. However, the 20 year-old midfielder has made just nine appearances with just two […]

,,, and perhaps it will make Vale think harder about which players we try to borrow. Too often in the last few years we have borrowed too many players who have no realistic chance of being in the 1st X1... in fact many have been nowhere near the 18 man match-day squad. Pointless.

Our youth team lads could be filling the non-playing/non match day squad positions.

Another pointless signing who was basically drafted in the for one game when we had an injury crisis early in the season.

What concerns me about all these players returning to parent clubs is the message it sends clubs when loaning us their players. Loans should be used to a/ improve the team and b/ develop and obtain game time for the loanee. The players returned have clearly not been good enough and rightly have gone back, but how many players have we loaned over the past 3 years where the player barely gets a game.If it was your player at your club would you want to send him to Vale?? I know I wouldn't.

Its a worrying trend of poor use of the loan market by all managers under Smurf(Adams excluded) and smacks of penny pinching and lack of a long term planning.

Until we have a long term plan we are only going to keep going one way.....

I agree comments of others here. Let us be more selective with future loans. The three that have gone back offered us nothing at all. Indeed we already had better. Tongue much better than Hardcastle. Barnett better than Quigley. Turner better than Kanu. Clark great loan. Dodds decent loan to boost squad strength only though. We can build on Clark's success to persuade other teams to loan us good youngsters

Really?!! Is that why Tonge can't even make the bench this season, even with us being dreadful for so much of the time?! And that's without going into how p-poor he was last season.

Hardcastle barely played, and as Santa has posted elsewhere, looked good on his debut and was then dropped.

Turner better than Kanu.

We barely saw Kanu to properly judge him but I've seen enough of Turner to say that he's nowhere near good enough and will never make it in the Football League - gone by the end of the season onto a career of, at best, National League North level. I doubt that Kanu is any worse.

Truth is neither Hardcastle nor Kanu were given much of a chance by Aspin, whereas others have had plenty of game-time & not been up to it (certainly in the positions that they have been played anyway).
