Is anyone apart from Eddie and Jean going? I thought we were boycotting the competition... Another record low crowd would send a better message to the Blue One and the organisers of the competition.

 

The organisers of the competition wont be bothered as they have the money from the premier league and have also extended it for a few years again. Just a chance for the fringe players to show they want to get in the match day squad.

I would love us to try something completely different in this game, without Pope, to at least try and show that playing Pope up front makes us 1 dimensional and ironically limits the goals/chances that we score. Put Miller/Whitfield and Angus either side of Turner/Dodds up top. Plenty of pace and trickery there. Play the ball out as much as possible from the back, and on the deck, at speed. A back 4 of Gibbo, Smith, Rawlinson (if fit) and Clark. A central midfield 3 of Manny, Conlon and Calverley/Joyce, with Conlon in the holding role. It may not work, but by God we need to try something different.

He is history on his way back to Chesterfield to his true level to try to save them being relegated again.£900 a week for a tea boy Turner couldn’t score for Kidsgrove but now seems to be a world beater.

Did I say he was 'our saviour'? Or that it would work? The operative word in my post is 'try'. I know that you love Tom Pope to the point of ridicule, but surely even you cannot seriously argue that the football with him in the team is working?

Pope is in a different class to Dodds and is only struggling because he is up front on his own with no support.Dodds is a fair weather player and any opposition would have a field day if he plays.The only reason he came back was because Popey put a good word in for him when he was obviously struggling at Chesterfield.Might as well start with 10 men.

Shows what a judge of a decent player Pope is if that's true. Isn't that then Dodds, Kay and Lainton who've been brought to the Club on his 'recommendation'?
