First time I saw him was at Burton away. He came on as sub and his first touch was so bad he ended up getting someone sent off.

Another who had some ability but again lacked that certain something to take it further. I always felt Kelly didn't have the confidence to run at and beat a man as a winger. A time or two he would get the ball in a good position start to run at the defender then sort of give up and lay it off to someone else instead of taking the bloke on when we were on the break. A shame as he had scored a couple of good goals in the odd game.

I'd put Danny N'Guessan, Theo Robinson, Martin Paterson and Cecilia way ahead of him in the 'useless' category. They barely scored 9 between them!

He is still scoring goals for Rochdale in League 1, 24 of them since he went there.

Sam Jones on loan to Cheltenham from Shrewsbury. scored against us today. Paul Hurst brought him to Shrews from Grimsby saying he was still raw, far from what he will be. Askey, manager at the time of Shrews, let him go on loan to Cheltenham. Jones is an old fashioned tough forward, I saw him play his few games for Shrews last season. His loan to Cheltenham finishes in January, seems just the man for Vale but we don't use forwards do we ?

Vale was his lowest ebb. The guy played for Crystal Palace in the Championship before us and has had a career that has never since dipped into league 2.

 

I’d beg him to play for Vale again.’

 

Sadly look at our old promotion league 2 squad and it was full of superior players too good for the league.

 

Today we have a pile of players barely proven in league 2, let alone anywhere else. Pope excepted.
