Joffra Archer eligible for England 2019

This may not mean a great deal to non-cricket fans but I reckon this is a massive story for anyone following English cricket.

Joffra Archer is a huge all-round talent who has already done great things in the IPL and BBL. He's also one of the best fielders I have seen - another string to his bow in addition to his batting and bowling.

I don't see him as getting in the Ashes squad as most of his cricket has been short-form but he may be a real contender for the one-day side.

The fact that he may now be available next summer must surely make England the run-away favourites. The team now has so many options that it's a question of who gets left out of the ODI side.

I think this is a dangerous precedent for International cricket. It means that basically staying 3 years suddenly becomes eligible for England. The rules are becoming too relaxed.

Will i think have a even greater negative effect on what could be called ''native'' English players breaking into England squad. Its hard enough already with the number of players already having been born overseas in English teams recently.

Its the same in rugby with some dubious 6 nation players for example who seem to have an excellent Southern hemisphere pedigree.

I dont begrudge the individuals wanting to play International sport but does bring into question whether teams are really made up representing the true Country or simply a mish mash of ''eligible'' players
