Match Thread - EFLT Walsall v Port Vale

Recommended Posts

Back to the grind after a great effort against the money bags. Already through to the knock - out stages so no pressure. Not sure of the rules on who has to play, so will leave the team selection to others. Hopefully no further injuries before the Mansfield game, a little run-out for Monty?

Make massive changes as its effectively a dead rubber and players put a lot into Sunday.

Maybe go

Hornby

Gibbons

Rawlinson

Smith

Vassell

Monty

Pugh

Kay

Kanu

Quigley

Miller

..or we may see Hardcastle come in and Kay go into centre half for Smith or Rawlinson?

A dead rubber in a competition no-one cares about. This one is strictly for the mutants.
Run out for fringe players, a trip to Spurs temporary ground for the finalists?

Probably go to penalties as one did v Doncaster when both clubs had already been eliminated

Isn't this a decider?

Winner tops the table and gets home tie in the knock out first round.

Don't like the current set up of the competition, but it does give our fringe players some priceless game time.

There's the small matter of £10k for a win and £5k for a draw. Winners in Round 2 get £20k.

Don't really give tomorrow too much importance, but top the group and win the next round, am sorry but with everyone left just three games away from a Wembley appearance, I must admit, I will start to get excited. Never been to Wembley and would be made up to go there supporting the boys.

I remember watching Licoln against I think it was Chelsea youngsters in the semis last season, and with 10,000+ fans roaring them on, I remember being more than a tad jealous. Might not mean anything now, but I hope it soon will be

Especially when there are hardly any reserve games going on either.

Play that team and we get fined.

Not under the current rules.

"7.3 Each EFL Club shall play its Full Available Strength in and during all Matches. Full Available Strength means the EFL Club must include at least four Qualifying Players in the ten outfield Players named in the starting eleven on the Team Sheet.

7.4 Qualifying Player means any Player who:

7.4.1 had started the immediately preceding First Team Fixture (as defined below);

7.4.2 subsequently starts the immediately following First Team Fixture;

7.4.3 is in the list of ten Players at the Club with the highest number of starting appearances in First Team Fixtures in the same Season;

7.4.4 has made forty or more starting appearances in First Team Fixtures or international equivalents (and not limited to the same Club or Season); or

7.4.5 is on standard loan from a Premier League Club or any EFL Club operating a Category One Academy."

Kay, Pugh, Montano and Dodds all meet 7.4.4

So the EFL can water down the competition, but the clubs can't act accordingly... Well isn't that nice :banghead:

15 year old striker Nelson Agho on the bench tonight.

Moved to England 4 years ago, Prem clubs all over him. Been training with the first team and playing for the under 18s.

I look forward to his move to Man City being reasonably compensated, and our competent and benevolent chairman to re-invest the funds.

Wow looks like the youth team is getting some great investment with the amount of youngsters we've had getting snapped up by prem clubs recently.
