Cache / ISP issues again?

Santa

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone else has had this recently, but I can't access OVF at my home. I just get the server is not responding message.

I'm pretty sure there's an issue with my ISP just not wanting to know as I can access with no problems at work and at the weekend when I was at my parents' house using their broadband.

I've set up OVF so it appears on https (which is a secure set-up which Google recommends). To do so you have to set up security certificates.

However, I am by no means an expert at this and it could be that something isn't set up correctly at the server end.

That would seem to be the case by these type of error message - which seem to indicate something is wrong with the site secure settings and prompting error msgs

Best bet is for me to speak to my ISP as they know more about this than me.

I will do so ASAP and hopefully that should sort this. I'll let you know how I get on...

In the meantime, make sure you are accessing https://www.onevalefan.co.uk (note the "s" it's important)...

The secure issue seemed to be caused by me putting a link on the forum to http (and not https) so not following my own advice. So "Tssk!" to me!

I think what basically happens is that the secure environment really doesn't like linking out to non-secure (http) and that can result in the browser panicking and sending out "non secure" msgs resulting in a loop of errors and eventually a "server not responding" message as it suffers a mental breakdown from the whole traumatic event. I've basically been stressing out your servers by my careless use of a "http" rather than a "https"...

If you spot it anywhere else can you kindly let me know the URL. I believe the front page of OVF and the forum front page are fine now (fingers crossed) but it could be that there are rogue links with "http" on other pages which are causing this.

Its all gobbledegook Rob to me! I'm not up to date so to speak with technology, I just bundle along. However I really enjoy ovf on my computer and mobile phone and I do get frustrated when I can't access the site. I seem to have to log in each and every time I go on my computer for ovf, and this I never used to have to do. Am I doing something wrong?

I have got the tech support guys looking at the issue which now seems to be just affecting forum posts.

If they can't figure it out my next step will be to switch various things off until I can figure out what is causing it.

That's a bit of work and may have to wait until tonight / possibly tomorrow.

So bear with me folks...

Hi folks,

I think the server blip may be solved. If you still get it try clearing your browser history (including cookies) and try again.

It was four or five little things that may be cached and still cause issues if you don't clear your cache.

onestepatatime - your issue is somewhat different. Bear with me, I'll come back to you on it. Feel free to push me if you don't hear back soon.

Cheers,

Rob
