Hi,

 

I have to make a change tonight which may or may not break the blog part of the site.

 

The situation:

 

As you may be aware we moved from http://www.onevalefan.co.uk to https://www.onevalefan.co.uk recently. Google is encouraging sites to go to "https" as these sites are more secure and less likely to contain malware. So, to maintain our Google ranking we moved to https

 

The issue:

 

Over ten years of Wordpress, I have produced thousands of posts. Within those posts are links to images and the majority of those images are linked to http://www.onevalefan.co.uk. There are (wait for it) 57,000 images to be re-linked. This means there are broken images on many pages.

 

The only way to switch 57,000 images is via a mass URL change. This is what is going to happen tonight. I have tested it and it all seems to work fine but you never know...

 

What may happen:

 

If it all goes well - great! However, if it breaks my database I may have to restore a back-up which could mean the blog part of the site being down for a few hours. The forum should NOT be effected by it all.
