Match Thread Nuneaton B v Port Vale

Agree. Montano is never a centre half and Hannant looks good going forward so would be wasted there. Would be worried if that’s how we line up first game.

I disagree on Hannant, I think he’s decent going both ways, arguably needs to learn a bit on the defensive side though.

But conversely there’s a similar conundrum on the right in that Gibbons a natural right back (even though he had a positive impact mostly) still needs to learn a bit more going forward too (which is to be expected at only 20). But if we play with wing backs and can get them high up the pitch, which by the looks of us using 2 holding midfielders is what Aspin has in mind, then I think he (Hannant) can affect the game. Besides where else would he play in a wing back system? I didn’t think he was as effective in centre mid or number ten when he played there last season.

Montano on the left of the 3 is a strange one. I’d have thought Smith would play there, but maybe the management see something in Monty to believe he’s capable.

But for me it’s either Montano or Hannant at left wing back.

I’m not sure wasted is the right word. If you play 3 at the back, the wing backs are what makes or breaks the system. Look how vital Trippier was to England.

Not sure Hannant is the man for that. Montano seems like a perfect player to play wing back I’d prefer him there Hannant further up with Worrall and then centre halves in centre half personally.

It was said last season that Montano was never a Left Back, wrong. Why don't we just trust Aspo to try different systems out.
