The last few years of his career you can almost write off with his various injuries. But before that his record for Liverpool was 104 games played, some of them as a sub, and he scored 68 goals. Hardly a bad record is it?

 

You don't have to like the guy. You can definitely call him injury hit, lazy, question his laid back attitude and also say that he's not fulfilled his potential for a number of reasons. But clearly he has been an extremely good football player. I don't think Klopp has kept him around all these years just for his dance moves.

Oh, and for what it's worth he also reached 50 goals for Liverpool quicker than the likes of Suarez, Owen and Rush.

Pope has played twice as many league games as Sturridge. I don't know where you got your figures from.

 

Did pick up the wrong figure for Pope - he is on 498. Sorry. Nonetheless Sturridge needed to break in to a Chelsea team when young which had world class players including Drogba. As we have seen this season with Hudson Adoi, he got to start for England before playing for Chelsea. Now he has to beat other world class players to get a start. 300 plus games is not the best, but is far from poor.

 

No one is criticizing Oxlade Chamberlain for having a year off with injury at Liverpool. It's a tough place football at that level. It is fair to say, from what I have seen at Liverpool this season, that they are just incredible without the ball. I have never seen a team with the physical prowess they have to run and close down. Sturridge has average mobility for a striker and that usually won't be enough to start at Liverpool. But bring him on when the game gets stretched and he has all the skill needed to make the difference.
