The difference a year makes

Awesome to see well organised recruitment and serious ground work gone into signings. We’ve acted early to get the right players and done what we usually sit and see other sides doing. Rudge and Aspin appear to have convinced NS that paying the wages of the new lads over the summer is a good idea too.

Compare this to the Bruno and brown eras and both those managers were on holiday about now and saving money to pick up the dregs left in mid July.

We done Aspo, Mr Rudge and NS on this occasion too

Agree 100%. Has a knock on effect in 2 ways aswell:

1) players on the market see we are serious about getting business done early, and can see we are building an experienced side looking to be competitive.

2) Fans are (perhaps) more likely to sign up for season tickets etc as can see a clear direction, rather than waiting & seeing.

I see the marketing of season tickets has gone into overdrive, plugging the new signings and urging people to back Aspo via a vigorous campaign of emails and social media releases.

Oh wait.....

I think the new GDPR laws may have a massive impact on marketing by email, and not just to us

So many positive vibes coming out the club for once, I haven't had a season ticket for 7 years but already seriously tempted along with my boy who is now 7 and I reckon there are a few stay always like me that can be tempted back with a couple more signings, good stuff so far.

I remember this time last year a few posters were vilified by the vast majority because they had concerns about the lack of early signings. Comments such as 'what's the rush?', 'players are on holiday', 'agents are waiting to get the best deal', 'you'll moan about anything', why don't you just enjoy the summer?'

Roll forward 12 months and it appears every post on the subject is praising the early strengthening of the squad almost to the extent of bumming Aspo. Of course no-one is going to admit to being a hypocrite are they?

Positive vibes that should be shouted from the rooftops. 12 months from now we could be much closer to The Bottlers than in over 15 years.

We've got a legend leading us and The Godfather taking care behind the scenes.

It really wouldn't take much imagination to play on all this to sell season tickets.

Some clubs have been/still are involved in the play offs and are only just drawing up their retained lists. Other clubs have managerial vacancies and plenty of players and managers will be off on their holidays.

Every transfer has its own story. Players who may have been part of a manager's plans can soon become surplus to requirements if a deal comes off for another player in their position.

What I'm getting at is that there isn't necessarily a right and wrong way to go about transfer business in terms of the timing, Foyle signed a load of players very early in the summer of 2007 and they all turned out to be crap.

I'm pleased about the standard of players we've signed so far but I'm also mindful that none of them have kicked a ball for us yet.

Hahaha.

GDPR is what made that 'department' be completely and utterly dogshlt for the entirety of it's existence, is it?

They've always been far below the baseline and always will be until proper leadership takes over with a coherent strategy, operating plan and money and resources for people like McClellan to finally be able to utilise. Wildes was all sorts of things but at least he understood the value of fan engagement.
