Leon Legge and Connell Rawlinson sign up

Sky Bet have got us finishing about 6th from bottom next season and, I think, 6/1 for promotion. I'm surprised anyone's offering odds so far ahead of the season with so much transfer business to be done but I'm not a betting man so I wouldn't really know. What does interest me about the bookies' odds is how they view our chances because it's pure business to them with no emotional influence.

They obviously don't see us improving much but think we should survive, it'll be interesting to see if their opinion changes as we make more signings.

Personally although I'd love us to turn into a promotion side my realistic expectation is for a significant improvement on last season. I'd like more than a solid mid table finish but I'd live with it as Aspo rebuilds from one of our worst squads ever.

Doubt if the bookies know anything at this stage, they have to start somewhere then adjust the odds as the money comes in, they have a year until they pay out. As for a finishing position, mid table comfort as a change from the last two seasons is probably realistic. Obviously a run at the POs would raise our spirits, but talk of promotion is premature. Better to go up a season later or two with a team capable of staying up than slipping back straight away. I would be delighted if the team was strengthened quickly for a charge, but see no signs yet.

I will stick my neck out, and say that Rawlinson will be the best centre half at our club this season.

I also believe that fans will be moaning that we have only given him a 12 month contract, and begging for Vale to get him signed up for longer.

Based on what?

Seeing him play live most weeks. He is a really good signing for us Phil.

Hope you are right, but League 2 is a better level than he has played at before, hard to make a judgement before he has kicked a ball.

I was just offering an opinion based on his career to date. He gets an awful lot of yellow cards and has only played around 20 games a season for the last few seasons. That suggests to me that he will have fitness and discipline issues trying to play at a higher level. Time will tell I guess.

So yo don't trust Aspin and Rudge to bring in decent players.

I think you will be surprised at how decent a player he is.

Cheer up mate and chill out a bit.

Phil he has played in Europe against sides like Leggia Warasaw and in the Scottish league cup against teams like Livingston and Dumbarton. So he can play at a decent standards.

If TNS played against Vale from last season I dare say they would have beaten us.

The standard in that league is not as bad as people think.

If he’s getting that many yellow cards that’s probably why he’s only played 20 games in a season, he would have been suspended the rest of the time.
