You want to show your appreciation to your customers for sticking with you through hard times.

 

You want to make it as easy as possible for those customers to renew their custom through season ticket sales and purchasing merchandise.

a) Get a senior figure from the club to thank the fans before the game and appeal for their continued support?

 

b) Use the PA system to remind fans of renewal dates and prices?

 

c) Plug heavily the discounted merchandise in the club shop and get it shifted?

 

d) None of the above.

 

Just when you think this club couldn't get more clueless they reach new heights of ineptitude.

I've not said it's Smurthwaite's fault (although he surely has to take an interest in how we draw revenue into the club?).

 

Where would you put the blame for this though? Or do you not think there's serious problems with marketing the club?

Yes, we want the Blue One gone, and sooner rather than later. But we also need owners who have the financial backing and the cojones to take Vale forward. Until then unfortunately we are where we are.

All my life Vale has been run in an amateurish manner interspersed with the odd flash of doing things professionally to give false hope of improvement to come. What really needs to change is the culture and attitude at the club and culture changes have to come from the very top of any organisation for it to work.

I won't be holding my breath in anticipation of much progress in this area during Norman's tenure.
