John Ritchie and Ray Williams were both good signings from non-league as well.

Brian Horton, Terry Bailey, Mick Mahon, Jimmy Goodfellow, Mick Cullerton, John Brodie, Bradley Sandeman, Sammy Morgan, Colin Tartt, Stuart Sharratt, Bill Summerscales, Mark Bright,

That is not a bad list, 3 went to play at the top level, the rest gave us very good service and some went on to give excellent service to other clubs after leaving us. Non league is a place where lots of gems can be found, we should not dismiss it. We can only realistically look at non league or junior players released from big clubs who are hungry for a second chance. Good experienced lower league players will cost money that our owner is not so likely to give to Neil Aspin. We cannot just go to non league, it is a mix. I am confident that Neil Aspin and John Rudge, along with their coaching staff have enough knowledge to get in decent players.

And there’s no way a non league player can justify wanting to come in and be on what our top earners are on.

if theres 6-7 sides after him then im sure it will become an auction and he will get paid what our top earners are on. Lets not kid ourselves chaps we arnt going to be the only sides after that type of player, you will find a lot of league 1 clubs models are based on nonleague signings we arent going to be able to offer them average league 2 wages and fend off league 1 competition at the same time. If they are going to be a hit you take the gamble and pay good wages, if you arnet sure and offer below the rest, you wont get them

Whilst we're talking about non league, someone I've had my eye on for a while is Jack Powell at Ebbsfleet. 24yo centre midfielder who gets goals - 19 in 74 appearances so around 1 in 4 in non league. He's got 9 goals this season too and is a bit of a free kick specialist.

We definitely need more goals from midfield so I'd hope we would be looking at someone of his ilk.

A midfield three of Kay, Hannant and Powell would be excellent with Kay sitting in and Hannant and Powell bombing forward.

I have seen Jack Powell and thought he was ok but in the games I saw he never really dominated. I agree that his record is good though and he is worth consideration. One player who really impressed me was Jack Bridge. Northampton signed him for money in January but he has only played a couple of times for them. I really rated him. However his game may not have developed, who knows. There are some good players around.

Just been reading about George Green at Nuneaton Town - ex-Everton, still only 22, and has had personal problems but now seems to be getting his act together...could be worth a punt?

I am sure Aspin will have a few on his list from non league and some from the efl and i trust Aspin more than anyone when it comes to bringing in non league players....another Jamie Vardy would be nice please Neil

Think Brian Horton was recruited from non-league too (Hednesford, if my memory is right) though not by Rudgie of course.

I was only really referring to Rudge signings. Outside that window we had a few in the 70s. Rudge was our top talent spotter and probably averaged a non league player who was successful every third year on average.

Dior Angus has 3 in 6 for Tamworth 2 divisions down; maybe an option for the forward line next year?

I'd say hes worth a go, we can always loan him out if he needs more experience. The lower down you go the more frantic and physical the games are, players are lucky to get 2 or 3 touches before someone steams through them.

You can never say never but I would have to say his record is very poor, even at Nuneaton one goal in 11 games does not excite me much.
