Problem is of course that this poll is not reaching the full mass of Port Vale fans. No poll will. I accept that for OVF followers it will represent our feelings but Smurthwaite will say that we only represent 5% of the fan base!

Yeah I am also wary that the apologists will use this excuse... but thats a desperate get out. This forum was formed to talk about things related to Port Vale and therefore in my eyes, in a poll like this is representative. It was around way before Norman and will be around long after he is gone.

If this forum was set up to specifically moan about Norman then I would say it would be unfair to use the poll results. The fact that I imagine the results will show people want Norman gone is because that's what people want.

It's a fair sample. As IC says, it's not a pre condition of joining OVF that you have to swear to hate all things Norman Smurthwaite. You don't have to give your identity or reveal how you've voted.

People are right though, that will definitely be the line Norman and his supporters will come out with. It's one moan fan, or some other lazy head in the sand delusional statement.

I want to see him gone, but I feel things have gone too far for a simple divorce. His heart is not 100% in the Vale, but his money (what he thinks he has invested, he will want back). So I can see this getting messy. So until its sorted he unfortunately has in himself to stay. The other option is he just walks and we may be worse off short term. He has control of this situation and he knows it. But finally I want him gone, without being, as I see black mailed, into a choice. Do the right thing Norman, sell up and cut your losses, for us please

I personally don’t think he has “lost” as you put it. I suspect that either by hook, or more likely crook, that he already has his money back and see’s Vale as a nice “earner”. Whatever has happened that we don’t know, we DO know that he has donated the stadium to himself which in itself would

more than cover his outlay in resale value alone. As I’ve said before, he may be daft but he ain’t stupid.

Just voted. Currently says 81% want him gone.

True, but for me such polls can be more dynamic if we know the 'N - number of individual votes cast' e.g. 70% voted for oatcakes on match days. Q: Was the result a consequence of N=20 out of 3,000 season ticket holders?

As mentioned elsewhere the poll above is an OVF poll and may, if extrapolated across other media, return a similar result. We simply do not know because, in my opinion, apathy counts against it.

So, if as shown in OVF statistics approximately 2,000 out of 5,000 registered members visit the Forum weekly can we assume the passionate few taking time to cast their vote are representative of the whole. Again, we simply do not know ergo it is easy for those in power to dismiss such polls out of hand.
