Where did you get 88 goals from? Are you including non league goals because that makes it a pointless comparison. And what they are doing now is most important, and without popes goals we would be in serious trouble. If we didn’t have Barnett this year our position wouldn’t be any different.

Calm down. He's nowhere near the worst player in this squad. His non-pressing was bizarre in the last minute, but it didn't cause the goal; Whitfield pressed and Barnett drifted to the left. The problem was that Kay got sucked in and lost his header, meaning Howkins had to close down, Smith didn't get tight enough to the guy in behind Howkins, and Gibbons was AWOL, leaving 3 on 1 and an easy goal.

 

But nah, Barnett not pressing a player who was already being pressed (probably under instruction to maintain shape) 80 yards away prior to a hopeful punt upfield, which was followed by a catalogue of defensive mistakes, is why we lost.

 

If he pressed, nothing would have changed. Its a bizarre fixation Vale fans have on perceived 'lazy' forwards, and them being unable to criticise Gibbons, who's man it was who bagged and was in no mans land as they broke in the 93rd minute.

 

He was actually pretty decent yesterday. Contributed more than Worrall. Its clear we knew we could bully their centre halves and get crosses into the box, and he threatened. Will be a fine backup target man in this league.

Hannant won the penalty with his positive attacking play and his ability to "read" what was happening in front of him. He has the makings of a good player for us. How old is he and how long is his contract? He will get better with coaching.
