Smurthwaite: Vale is not self-sufficient, poor gates, high staff costs mean monthly l

News Feed

Recommended Posts

Figures can be manipulated to represent his point especially a loss can be shown even if norman isn't losing out(expenses, charges from himself -wonder how much he charges his other business for the use of vale park facilities),

if vale is losing that much and a business person owned the club would it not make sense to either increase income streams by all means or cut costs if this doesn't work then why why why wouldn't you sell and get out --it simply doesn't add up

Wonder how clubs like accy, barnet,Morecombe, rochadale, burton, crawley - even macc town can offer their manager more than we could...

If we had an owner who puts all vale proceeds back into the club even without putting any money in we should be self sufficient

Why would a (self proclaimed brilliant?)business person refuse to sell a business who's expenses far out cost the profits to a tune of £140K/160K per month when a offer (or two or more) has been made to purchase.

This also considering that the said person has no interest in the success of the business and dislikes a large proportion of it's customers, who in turn dislike the proprietor?

This certainly does not add up!

Poor marketing, poor leadership, lack of strategy and no flaming idea how to run a football club might just have contributed to this Norman you fool!

How has the off field wage bill been allowed to spiral so out of control? Oh yes I remember now that he said last week that the club is appallingly run but that he has no involvement (flying pigs and all that) - why is it always someone else's fault?

I hate the contempt with which he treats loyal fans.

Non playing staff wages according to the P&L figures Norman leaked on here:

2015 - £1.7 million

2016 - £1.0 million

And now we’re being told that he’s having to chuck in an extra £160k a month to cover a shortfall?

You do the maths.

i agree, and norman should be pressed on this expenditure, on the official site it lists the non playing staff at Vale with official titles there's 49, with one vacancy... so the other 250 are the workers. So a breakdown of rough salaries we could see where the money was going, the club stewards approx. 40-50, are on minimum wage at 4hrs per match day, there's a start, what about the others?

Won't the stewards be provided by a company, hence a creditor rather than employees?

The guy is the biggest numpty going. He must have some form of personality disorder as he certainly doesn't seem to inhabit planet earth.

If we lose 140k - 160k a month, that's 1.68m - 1.92m per year. If the club is really costing this plus our income to run every year, to produce the garbage of the last couple of years then turn the lights off and pass the keys to someone remotely competent.

no club stewards the ones with red coats(and speak English or potteries English)are club run, the other stewards black bibs are a private company and cost a lot more...and there are a lot of them.

Rob, was his statement about 300 staff an explanation for the significant losses and subsequent Directors Loan? Given that in your excellent article you've made it clear that such loans can't be accumulated through playing staff costs?

If so, wow. Does he actually believe that fans will swallow this complete BS? More likely he's not realised the mistake he's made and he's now desperately trying to protect what he thinks he's entitled to.

The man is mad. He claims we have too many staff, then decides to fund more by funding pubs!!

Why not just finish the Lorne Street and stick another bar in there?

Another pub means more stewards on match days. Building one between the away end and Lorne Street is a massive fan flashpoint area for trouble.
