Brexit again...

Saw some really surprising news this weekend - https://www.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-trade/u-s-overtakes-germany-as-uks-biggest-source-of-imports-uk-trade-department-idUSKCN1UZ1BI

Crazy considering it is impossible to trade with anyone without a trade deal and I missed the part where we have had to have open borders and sign our sovereignty over to the US.

I'm sorry, I don't get your point.

Everyone will suffer from (a) a trade war between China and the USA, (b) from Brexit, and (c) from a world wide slump.

I can't see the relevance of discussing Germany. I'm more bothered about the UK. The UK is also on the brink of a recession, after ten years of austerity. Which facts above do you disagree with?

It's not my beloved EU. But on balance I believe we are better in than out. You have singularly failed to provide evidence to the contrary.

My point is we aren't the only country struggling with production and growth.

Remainers blame Brexit every opportunity they get.

What excuse have you got for Germany?

Brexit! 😉

I don't claim to know enough about the German economy to comment from a position of strength, to be quite honest, but as far as I can tell the main problem seems to be the US-China trade war affecting global markets, so exports have been hit (especially cars to China, Germany's biggest market), lasting problems with emissions in the car industry, and I imagine, Brexit, which will clearly affect all our trading partners as well as ourselves.

I am simply reporting what nearly every economist and financial expert tells us about the impact that Brexit is having and will have on our economy. They are not my words but the opinions of learned bodies like the Bank of England, CBI, OECD, and even the government's own officials - none of them to my knowledge known for their left wing views.

If I go to the hospital and see a surgeon I will take his advice. He will know more about medical problems than me. I don't say "fake news" or "project fear" to him and totally ignore what he, as an independent expert is telling me. What do you?

I see where nasty Farage was up to his antics today, insulting the royal family.

What was he saying? Something about the Queen Mother being an overweight, chain smoker and gin drinker; irrelevant Meghan had ruined Harry; and Charlie Boy, as he terms Prince Charles, he hopes will never be king because he can't stand his sensible views on climate change.

Nice bloke.

About as nice as a syphalitic lip sage.... as a "politician" he has to say something about anything to keep him in the public's mind.

They may know a lot about medical problems but I'm not sure about their views on promoting an International  Health Service at the UK taxpayers expense.

What are they trying to do with that plan?

Ha! Weird (and amusing) that The Guardian is publishing an article that basically gives a large chunk of their readership the Juan Kerr sign.

“It’s going to be like a bereavement for me,” says Helen Harris-Burland, a campaigner from the Chilterns.

Perhaps trying to increase the Independent readership? Comments not open though.
