Brexit again...

That's 62 years ago and the world has moved on.

In any case the period from 1960 onwards was very poor and Macmillan [who you quoted] wanted us to join the EU because we were in a mess economically. That's why Wilson and Heath both wanted us to join as well, to get a piece of the action,at least in part.

The consensus was to join the common market. Great idea......... not the EU .

I suspect we slithered into the EU... which we never had a referendum to join...... because the common market was a gravy train and it wasn't seen as a good idea to get off..... or as fosse said..... if it isn't broken..?

I considered compiling a list of things that weren't broken but were changed... not fixed.... unfortunately the scope was endless so here are a few.

Sending kids up chimneys.

School leaving age 10?

Throwing sewage out of Windows into the street.

Pit pony coal haulage.

Kids down mines.

Communal house toilets.

Corporal punishment.

Hanging.

Deporting convicts.

Floggings.

Slavery.

As you can see the list is endless and spans history.... none of the above were broken.... wrong and changed definitely, thankfully..... but not broken, they were all effective in their way.

I'm not suggesting the EU is in the same category as the above.

Not one bit. We don't currently have sovereignty and I've 100% proven that with the official eu court website.

Debating individual laws is not relevant and is a petty and lazy attempt to move the goal posts to try and claim a victory from an already determined defeat.

Is that because you can't identify any laws that the UK doesn't have control over and that your claim, "We will get our sovereignty back" really is a lazy statement as you're not able to substantiate it.

I support leaving the EU because of the significant benefits it will bring to this country and also because I respect democracy and the democratic will of this nation is to leave the EU.

So what are these significant benefits that leaving the EU will bring, before casting your vote you must have had a/some reason(s).

Paul, what will me giving you a law that I disagree with, prove?

You are literally doing what I just said, moving the goal posts so you can try and claim a victory that simply is not possible.

Wanting sovereignty is not the same as wanting to rewrite, repeal or keep individual eu laws. It's about having the ability to do it if we wish.

A debate or an argument has to move forward not backwards, asking the same questions because you don't like the answer causes stagnation, as we have seen in parliament.

The law argument is answered by the ability to make laws that are not subject to being cast down by a superior court not in our sole control.

A simple answer to the benefit of leaving is the ability to trade freely with the whole world.... including the EU.... on our terms... the terms we agree. In my opinion the question should be around whether it is more beneficial or not.... the answer is no one knows for sure which is/will be the most beneficial in the long term... it's all guess and prediction.

I would hazard a guess that a lot of remain voters did so because what you are used to is safe, it's easier than change or stepping into the unknown.... that doesn't make it better.

I can see the arguments from both sides..... I agree with some of the arguments from both sides... the hard nut to crack for me is disregarding the referendum... that I can't just sidestep or ignore I think it is a very dangerous path to take. If I voted in a second referendum now I would vote leave simply because you create another hard nut not easily cracked.

Perhaps the country's foremost heart surgeon who retired recently, Professor Westaby, believes that Brexit will pose a risk to our recruitment of heart surgeons. There was been a steep decline lately. Few people want to do it. In 2014 only 14% were UK graduates. Most are European and have trained abroad.

I quote, "Brexit is a risk to our whole profession."

Not the first thing that springs to mind over Brexit but a sobering thought.

How many heart surgeons do you know who earn less than £30000 per annum?

Very true, but nothing to do with the EU, blame Govt policies, Amazon etc

Nothing to do with the EU...butt thats then globalisation which again I reiterate, means we don't need the EU

Wages on the other hand have a lot to do with the EU...why do you deny that net immigration to jobs figures is way too high so what do you expect when the demand for la#bour is 20 people to every opening. Business is laughing...workers are wondering where their next meal is coming from

It is the selfishness and contempt of those at the bottom that really does make the leavers more determined that we will beat this unjust and unfair dictatorship

How does the EU determine wage levels in the UK?

If you want a great advocate for Labour then look no further than David Lammy whom is the most arrogant contemptuous anti white person

and anti working class MP you can find on this planet. Just look at his hatchet job on Battern this morning on the political programme

If people in Stoke on Trent voted leave and still vote for these arrogant self serving parasites I will lose all hope in the UK human race if I haven't in it's most part already

Another Labour hypocrite who needs to sort out his own party's racism problems before criticising others?
