Here is a technical analysis of US compared to UK food standards from Techround:

The way it reads doesn't suggest impartiality; rather its attacks on Labour claims in the language it does suggests they are very partial indeed. Could they be Trump supporters by any chance?

The old chestnut "Chlorine water" raises it's ugly head again.

When chlorine gas or a simple chlorine like compound is dissolved in water it forms a complex equilibrium mixture of chemical species depending on the pH of the water, it's main use is as an antibacterial (It kills cholera, dysentry and Ttyphoid) but it also kill viruses, protozoa and other microorganisms effectively at extremely low concentrations, eg it is effective in drinking water up to 4 parts/million, a tiny, tiny concentration.

Chlorine water is used in drinking water so that people can have safe running water to drink, used in food preparation eg chicken washed with clorine water to reduce the number of bacteria on the chicken, cleaning around the home and all sorts of things where a cheap efficient antibacterial agent is required.

The only alternative to using Chorine water to reduce bacteria during food production/preparation is to use more expensive and precious antibiotics which increases the problem of antibiotic resistance although this is also seen with chlorine water but to a lesser extent.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using chlorine water to remove bacteria ect from chicken, the chicken tastes fantastic.

Or then again it might be accurate.

saying that I don’t know how they come up with Singapore scoring so highly on affordability. Last time I was there I was paying £12 for a plate of chips and that was when the exchange rate was 35% better than it is now.

It's not the fact that American chicken is chlorinated. It's the fact that it has to be chlorinated.

Most chicken is treated with some type of pathogen reduction treatment during processing and before it's cooked. The European ban on chlorinated chicken is probably more about protectionism than safety as if USA chlorinated chicken was less safe to eat there would be mounds of data to support the claim.

I fail to see how the UK can lecture anyone on meat safety.

The EU already permits the use of chlorine in water with a parametric value of 250 mg/l . The relevant EU Regulation can be found here:

Read what you like into the commentary, the data, especially the rankings on food safety, are entirely impartial.

On this wholly impartial ranking of food safety and security, the USA is fourteen places ahead of the UK.

Changing the subject slightly, apparently Nigel 'Bloke' Farage is trying to organise some kind of celebration on Brexit day. He also wants to make it all ticket so only the 'right people' attend. Heaven forfend that there are still people out there that aren't true believers.

Two things; first of all, we don't actually leave in effect until the transitional period ends, whether it's the end of the year or whenever Boris gets his trade deal.......or not. Secondly, isn't it a bit premature to celebrate before we know how it all pans out?

Depends on how you view it I suppose...... if there is no option to return then I suppose we have left..... and there is no option to return, it's an agreed deal or no deal.

We celebrate new year every year without knowing what's coming.

He was a farsighted fella our Winston, 77yrs ago he referred to 31st Jan.2020 when he said "now this is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning."

then the nitty gritty stuff begins, and we go to the table with a strong hand, because finally we're showing them we are negotiating from strength...
