Brexit again...

Johnson lied and is an habitual liar. He always has been and always will be.

The only reason the judge let him off was because "the laws do not cover arguments used in political campaigns" and he paid someone a king's ransom to get him off.

All this rubbish about net this and gross that. Do me a favour. He deliberately misconstrued the truth to persuade people to vote leave. He's a liar.

There is a good chance the guy who brought the action will pay the bill, although he could claim he isn't responsible because the original court should have thrown it out.

There is an indication the claim was frivolous as the guy deleted all his social media content referencing his allegations.... who knows.

I don't think he did his maths homework and should have known the difference between gross and net?

That's the end of the big red bus argument then.

Was their anything else which might have swayed us to vote leave.

'Their' was - good old fashioned English xenophobia. Keep denying it if you like but it's true.

Will the Remainers be taking it to court?

FUA, at the time in 2016 when Johnson made the comment about ca 350m/week to the EU  it was a blatant  lie and he knew it. By the sounds of it I doubt he did any homework on anything to do with Brexit judging from his  comments.

Just for the record around referendum time the UK was paying around ca 350m/week to the EU but this is reduced by the amount Thatcher negotiated in 1984 (reviewed every 7 years apparently) which currently brings the amount down to ca 275m/week, subtract the amount the UK receives in subsidiaries from the EU and this brings down the net total of the UK net contribution down to 160m/week, Johnson knew that, has admitted that 350m/week was a lie, even Farage back tracked on the 350m/week.

Regal, in the nicest possible way....not quite....you've been miss-led....again.

https://fullfact.org/europe/eu-referendum-not-largest-democratic-exercise/

You've consistently said the majority of people still wish to leave the EU but the polls, admittedly they can get it wrong, indicate otherwise as not one poll but 11/12 of the most recent polls in 2019 indicate more people wish to remain than leave and by a larger margin than the 2016 referendum.

Sorry Paul but you've gone and proven my point with that link. I didn't say it was the largest "democratic exercise" I  said more people voted for Brexit than have ever voted for anything else.

The Conservatives got 14m votes in 1992, Brexit got 17m+ votes.

And yeah, we can agree to disagree then if you are going to cling to the polls as if they override an actual referendum. I would point out that the majority actually voted for brexit, voted for parties in the GE that said they would honour the result, delivered an incredible EU election victory for the brexit party.

All of the actual real evidence shows that Brexit is still very much wanted by the majority.

Hey don't take Boris Johnsons word for it.

Don't take my word for it.

Don't take the high court judges word for it.

How about we ask the EU?

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/external/html/budgetataglance/default_en.html#united_kingdom

This link has the 2017 figures which are reduced compared to the 2015 figures that Boris quoted, but here is the archive of that link:

"In 2015 the UK contributed €18.21 billion to the EU budget (after a rebate of €6.08 billion) and also collected €4.27 billion in customs and farm trade duties on the EU's behalf, of which it retained 25%, as an administrative fee."

Some quick maths for you:

Total gross contributions of 24.29 billion (467m a week) not including the customs duties. If we do include the customs duties raised and 75% passed on to the EU these figures would read 27.49b per year at 528m  a week.

Less the 6.08b rebate and less the customs duties, the absolute smallest "net" figure you can come to is the 18.21b which would workout at 350m a week, although this figure is too small as it doesn't include the rebate which Boris clearly states he was including the rebate (as it is designated by the EU and we don't have control over how it is spent).

Now, these figures are in EUROs. I can't be bothered to go and find the 2015 exchange rate,  you probably know a lot better than me, but I know for a fact that these figures will all be higher than £250m (net) or £350m (gross). So I'll leave that with you.

Can we put this one to bed now? You got it wrong, lets move on.

A fantastic interview of a left wing brexit voter by 2 remainers (one left wing and one an immigrant).

No bull ****. No lies. No smearing. Just facts and honestly held constructive opinions.

I agree with every observation he makes, though I do obviously disagree with his ideology.

I highly recommend everyone watches the first 10-15 minutes, very interesting.

Well this man has now been sacked from his job and smeared with false accusations.

This is what the extremists on the left do. Even to other left wingers. If you are not with them you will be lied about, smeared, sacked, arrested etc.

Scary times for this country.
