He backed him by bringing the wage budget down though? If you add the cost of paying off the players Aspin didn't want to the cost of the new players he did bring in, I bet the overall outlay was relatively high. 'Backing Aspin' doesn't necessarily equate with 'raising the wage budget'.

I think the main problem, rather than monies offered to Aspin, is the damage to our reputation that Norman did when he boasted about the Page stuff. I hoped Rudge's involvement and reputation might repair some of that but obviously not.

I think it's less to do with the nature of Vale fans and more to do with the nature of the chairman. He's stubborn and arrogant enough to let the whole shitshow go down with him rather than back down and do the right thing. I think the more abuse he get's the more likely he is to dig his heels in.

The first paragraph is obvious to anyone without tunnel vision

Ah yes, that infamous 'strengthening by reducing squad numbers'.

I accept Aspo didn't want ADF or Lawrie Wilson, but surely getting rid of them cannot be considered 'strengthening' if the squad hasn't improved? Or if we missed out on Ricky Miller, Louis Dodds, and 20-30 centre backs (As Aspo admitted)?

You're another one Hagrid who thinks everything you say is gospel and riducules everybody else's point of view!

He's not my 'mate' as you put it and agree its time for him to go i'm just playing devils advocate on the difficult job any owner of any football club has to do!!

If it was easy then we'd all be top of the league but thats impossible all I seek to do is cut the guy some slack and understand running a football club with all its parameters is not easy!!

Devils advocate

He increased squad numbers.

I haven't mentioned 'strengthening'. I'm just pointing out that ending the transfer window with a lower wage bill doesn't mean Norman didn't support the manager. Whether those outgoing players should have been funded by Norman personally or from the club's budget is another matter, as is whether Aspin's new players (Hannant aside) provided any strengthening anyway.

The thing is, I broadly agree with much of what you say Hagrid. I just don't think there's any shade in many of the arguments on here. I think we probably paid out more money during January than the vast majority of teams in our league yet people on here seem to make out that Norman has done everything cheap.
