Just watched the 1st episode. Not quite sure from this episode where the series is going. What is it trying to say ? As a matter of fact Stoke was the Brexit capital as we had the highest percentage “leave” vote of all regions. As we all know, Brexit was fought (certainly in our area) on immigration, so is it trying to say we are not a racist society ? Or is it trying to say that despite all the dereliction which is there for all to see, that we are indeed a fine city ? At the moment, for me, the jury is out. But I really hope that it does not try to disguise the problems that the city has. However, I suspect that has been the remit.

Thanks Valiant62 enjoyed watching that and wouldn't have known about it if the link hadn't been posted.

To answer Rowdys question I think that it was trying to suggest that the city knows that it has problems but it also has the spirit to try to overcome them albeit will need the buy in from a hell of a lot more people that the few who are dedicated to trying to improve the place. Unfortunately its not been helped in the past by the City Council who failed to utilise much needed EU cash or presently when it wastes huge amounts of cash on vanity projects.

The whole series is accessible via links under the main video. I’ve just worked my way through it, I understand your points ... you may be pleased with “where it goes”. I thought it was pretty authentic anyway.

Thanks NTV (love the name by the way !)for you’re input, but one thing that winds me up is when people defend the city purely because it is our city. Problems clearly exist ie unskilled workforce, low wages, poor housing stock etc etc and burying our heads in the sand does not help. We have an awful lot to be proud off, but an immense more less so. Just playing the “look at our heritage” line does not help the thousands of families living on the breadline. What this city needs is action, not flowery words.

No Stoke did not have the highest Brexit percentage leave vote. Leave vote in Stoke was 69.36%. It was the highest vote by a city. The highest Leave vote though was in Boston (75.56%)

RR is correct,Stoke is the Brexit capital of Britain.

Boston isn't a capital.

I admire the people in S-o-T who're trying to make a difference. The very nature of the films tends to show "The Towns" in a poor light but even in the days when the pottery industry was at it's peak, the area always had a reputation of being grimy, industrial and working class.

Stoke did diversify it's industrial base with the likes of ICL, GEC and Baric computers employing 1000's of people in the late 60/70's but these companies left or ceased to exist in the merry go round of the corporate world.

IMHO the strength of the area has always been the warmth of it's people and the gorgeous country side that surrounds it, pity more of this wasn't shown.
