The OVF January Transfer Window thread

robf

Recommended Posts

Another disastrous January window closes then. We’ve known all month that we’ve needed some legs in midfield and for the best part of it a left back. Instead we break a club record for the amount of centre halves signed in one day. If we don’t go down it won’t be for the want of trying.

Disastrous??????

In my opinion, yes. The glaringly obvious issues haven't been addressed. In your opinion, no. We'll soon find out who's right and who's wrong. I genuinely hope it's me with our Football League status in jeopardy.

You’re working on the assumption that your opinion matches that of John rudge and Neil Aspin.

Well, as the Rolling Stones sang, it's all over now. Be interesting to see what Smurf does, will he take the Hugill money and run (sell up) or see it as a chance to clean the slate and start to build the club as he (probably) originally intended. This is a massive 'get out of jail' card for Norm.

I can’t belive we haven’t signed a left back. Unless Aspin plans on playing Jules there, which is a massive risk considering he is no where near fit.
Whatever plans Sir John and Aspo have for playing someone at LB you can do sod all about it .I wouldnt think for one minute that they havnt tried to bring a LB to the club. But the sad truth is you cant make players sign for you.

It's a bit like last year when we lost Alnwick, like Anderson, very late on and then struggled in the time left to bring anyone in.

But the bottom line has to be that Norman thinks we are safe (dangerous thinking for me) and can regroup in the summer, so don't really need to push out the boat this month. I don't think Aspin has signed a proven league one player on a permanent deal has he? They are all loans and non league chancers. That isn't to say that some might not come good but it takes time to adjust, as we found out with Jules and Wilson last week, time that we don't have.

Someone had to mention it, so here goes. I'm sorry we didn't try to get Dodds back. Not only to help us stave off the drop but also to pair him with Pope for next season. Letting him go to one of our rivals at the bottom is annoying. But if NS won't finance anything then we're stuck with going for yellow sticker players aren't we?

The window has left me totally underwhelmed. But I know who I'm holding responsible for it and it isn't Aspin or Rudge.

We're better off than yesterday - for centre backs.

So if things go well for the remainder of the season you will give the credit to Norman and not Aspin and Ruge then?

Eh? I don't follow your logic. Sorry. I'm talking about our transfer business this month, not how the team might play between now and May.

Of course I give credit to Aspin and Rudge but do you not believe that they would have brought in 1-2 better quality players if they had been given the green light? We're trying to get away with the minimum we can in order to stay up and what I'm saying is that it's a risky business, as we found out last year.

NS gets little credit for me for anything apart from taking us further down the tables, year on year, but he does hold all the purse strings and I find it depressingly sad that the likes of Stevenage and Colchester and FGR are investing more in players this month than us, despite our worryingly lowly position in the table. Hopefully we have enough to get by and I'm happy enough to have those two in the dugout [so to speak] but I'd guess that about 90% of fans feel a bit underwhelmed by this months window, save for the fantastic windfall from Hugill.

Anyway, it's gone now. We go with what we've got, get behind the team and cross everything.

Wish we had a player that could cross!
