The OVF January Transfer Window thread

If that is it for today, the happy with the Howe signing - seems promising and one for the future unlike the loans.

However we desperately needed left back. Also the Jones rumour would have been nice if it had materialised. Grimsby have just made a few signings (including striker Simeon Jackson) so there's still chance he could go.

Did someone say Garlick had said we're finished in the window? Where was that from?

Do we desperately need a goalkeeper? In the long run yes, but for the remainder of the season I think we can get by with what we've got.

13 in 29 for Grimbsy in league 2.

His record and reportedly impressive form since joining Grimsby makes me think its doubtful that they'd sell him (their top scorer and one of their best players) to another League 2 struggler, let alone that we'd fork out what's required to get him.

Plus, Scunthorpe were linked with him earlier this month.

Be delighted if its true!

Yes Aspo wanted him short term, but has not said that he wanted him long term. If he didn't then why get tied into a longer term deal?

That simply doesn't make sense. Aspo knew that Gunning was going on a longer term deal (if you can all it that), yet he still said that the club should have done more to keep him and that he shouldn't have been allowed to go. What does that mean unless the club should have matched their offer? Offering a player more in the short-term when he had a longer term offer clearly wouldn't work. So it only meant one thing: Aspo wanted to keep him and the club wouldn't do it. In ordinary circumstances this might be acceptable but we are in the throes of a relegation fight and destabilising the team was not a good idea.

It looked bad at the time and worse when Anderson left, leaving Aspo spending all his time trying to make sure we had enough central defenders to see us through to the end of the season.

Personally, I can't see why anyone would want to defend the club and its parsimonious owner when the manager is clearly unhappy with the decision not to do more. Only my opinion of course and others will differ. But why rock the boat when you don't need to?

Another disastrous January window closes then. We’ve known all month that we’ve needed some legs in midfield and for the best part of it a left back. Instead we break a club record for the amount of centre halves signed in one day. If we don’t go down it won’t be for the want of trying.

Not sure about disastrous. I never expected much from the January transfer window anyway as the meatier deals happen in the summer when players are out of contract. I trust Aspo enough to muddle through this season and make progress next.
