AFC Wimbledon have been given permission to return to Plough Lane and build a new stadium in Merton.

The Dons are hoping to move into their new 11,000 capacity stadium for the start of the 2019-20 season.

Brilliant news. Went to Plough Lane in Vale's 1983 promotion season (tight game, which we lost 1-0) and it was a pity they ever had to leave. Going back will make MK Dons look even more like the frauds they are.

I think English football going all-seater was the beginning of the end for home-and-away supporters of Vale due to the cost of tickets.

 

We used to take very respectable numbers to all corners of the country but now we don't travel south of Birmingham.

 

Anyway, it's great that the Dons are going home.

On a different tact, but still on the Wimbledon theme, who actually is credited with the 80’s FA Cup win ? I presume MK as Wimbledon did play there under their own name following relocation, but I don’t honestly know.

I’d second those views, a genuine attempt at the model unlike ours that’s proven hugely successful and massive credit should go to everyone involved.

 

Let’s hope the facilities are slightly better than the old ground however!

Wimbledon will help raise funds for the £25m ground by selling their Kingsmeadow ground to Chelsea,who are set to use the 4,800-seater ground for academy and ladies' matches.

The new stadium will be capable of being expanded to hold 20,000 fans.
