Yesterday's attendance!!

personally I cannot believe people are shocked by the attendance . traditionally the last home game before xmas is always the most poorly attended sat game of the season . the weather was poor , our recent performances have been poor and the lack of a definitive answer from the club over whether the game was on or not combined to confuse matters further.

lets be thankful though that the game took place (special thanks to speedy his staff and supporters who gave up their time to help clear the pitch) . we needed a result and the players delivered , we now need to pick up something in our next couple of away games . UTV .

The weather was poor? A bit nippy in December, what a shock.

I'll hold my hands up. I just couldn't be bothered. I have been going for 45 years. Been to a lot of aways, Crawley opening day and Lincoln the other week to name but two.

Missed Mansfield due to work, Saturday I had no excuse. Maybe it's as I'm getting older I'm getting wiser who knows.

Certainly have watched Vale in worse conditions, Cambridge away night match in the 90's springs to mind.

Was delighted the efforts of those hardy souls was rewarded. I sat at home munching on crap and drinking brews watching the goals show.

The most worrying thing to me given the fact it's a huge part of my life .......is that I didn't actually miss it .

Blackpool had less home fans than us on Saturday.

Correct, but I still don't think our situation compares to theirs.

I'm genuinely worried about how little is being done to cultivate our support for the future. It seems absolutely nothing is being done to address the issue...just look around our crowd and there's hardly anyone under 45 there.

It costs nothing to broadcast club news through the club website, social media pages and local papers.

Of course, pre-internet people used to use something called a telephone to call the club and see if the game was on - that option is still there thankfully!

I may have my wires crossed here, but are you saying the club didn't make it known on social media what was going with the game on Saturday?

I think somebody made the point earlier that the club shouldn't have to spend money on marketing and PR and I was making the point that lots of PR can be done for virtually nothing via the internet.

I suppose it shows how the internet has changed people's behaviour that they look to it first for information rather than picking up the phone and speaking to someone.

True.

In regards to Saturday I saw it all over social media about what was going on at the ground with them trying to get the game on and updates were quite regular. It never really seemed in doubt that it would go ahead. In the old days we'd have relied on local radio, football focus and teletext, all that in addition to actually calling the ground.

I don't actually see how the club can come in for criticism after getting the game on.

You would have to be the best marketing department in the world to promote the dross we have served up in the last two years.

If a cinema put garbage films on every week would they expect full seats ?

If the same cinema put on garbage films, and you had to sit in minus two degrees to watch what would we expect.

We won on Saturday against a dire side was it entertaining ?

3/5

Round trip of 300 miles for us and yes, it was entertaining. Apart from the dodgey start in the first 10 minutes we were competitive and the players gave it everything. And we won.

The declining attendances are the result of the last two dire seasons and, slowly but surely, will grow again as Aspo and Rudgie turn it around. Now we're under proper management, wish I could go every home game. UTV.

It was all over social media that they were getting the game on. Local radio were saying it was still on. 5live and talksport were regularly updating listeners on the games that were postponed too. I assume skysports must have been doing the same as well.

I don't see that as a reason to knock the club at all.

I agree, but some people don't need a reason...

I doubt many were in doubt about the game being on, but some who had to travel a way or are not so mobile etc, in icy conditions may have decided not to go in case the weather turned nasty. The forecasts were way out in the areas they showed more snow.

Not everyone posting on here seems capable of realising that different people have different circumstances, and some may have had to make a decision whether to go at, say 10am, if they had families who wanted them to go Christmas shopping, or had a longer way to travel or for multiple other possible reasons.

Loads of reasons for not going on Sat, & a few even if you're part of the hardcore. Weather & safety (plus the fact we have an ageing fan base means that is probably a slightly bigger factor than usual), money this time of year, league position, money being allocated to other games as we have 3 away days prior to Christmas, & then 2 big home games in Cov boxing day (which most will choose over this) & Luton. Then there was the issue of it possibly not being on, & people may have things to sort out in time for Christmas so maybe decided on the latter.

Even if our commercial department were clued up, there'd be no point marketing this game whatsoever, like others have said, usually a lower attendance just before Xmas, I imagine they'd target the big game on boxing day.

He won’t help him 🤪

It’s another crap marketing appointment of a proven failure in football off field management to match most of the crap we’ve had in that department.

Perhaps Norman needs to learn how to look for the right experience and qualities to fill such vital roles then mate.

Considering his record of employing people, he's either the unluckiest boss on the planet, a bloody poor judge of people or refuses to pay for the quality required.

Agree but I’m lead to believe it wasn’t the owner that appointed Lottery Chris 🤪
