Give Neil Aspin a Longer deal now Mr Smurthwaite!

It's already obvious that Neil Aspin is the manager to take the club forward to a higher league status.

A two or three year contract is needed to tie him up so that if a bigger club should entice him away in the future, the Vale will benefit financially.

Agreed - what better way to spend the £18,000 F A Cup prize money than to use it for a longer contract for Aspin and his management team.

I don't think tying a manager down is the quite same as tying a player down. If they get poached, they get poached, and the compensation is usually poor.

I've been impressed by Aspo so far. I was wary about what he'd be able to achieve with the situation he inherited but I'm really happy with how it's gone. We do need to keep him here and provide him with some stability to carry on doing what he's been doing.

SO COME ON MR SMURTHWAITE DO SOMETHING RIGHT AND GIVE THE BLOKE A DECENT LENGTH CONTRACT!

You pipped me to it, OS! So precarious a position is it being a Manager that other clubs are always on the look out - and it won't have gone unnoticed, elsewhere, that a team that couldn't score and couldn't win has been transformed into one that has only lost 2, and has just spanked a team a division (and several places) higher! It would certainly ease my fears if he handed Aspo a 3-yr minimum deal - imagine the disruption if Neil decided to walk to a better offer at the end of his short deal? Having to start over - again - might be a hurdle too many. Sign him up for a long term Smurf!!

Can I have whatever you're drinking please? Aspo is the first managerial decision he has got right.
If it is true then I believe that it was in fact Micky Adams who told the Club's owner to speak to Aspin as he wasn't even on the supremo's short list of three. So if that is the case then don't let anyone give him any credit for the new manager's selection.

I have said from day one that I think in appointing Aspin, Smurf was more interested in saving his own backside rather than the Vale, but if he doesn't give Aspin a decent contract, fans will be calling for his head again.
