More and more footballers are speaking out about mental health these days, and seeking help (Aaron Lennon, Kirkland, Clarke Carlisle), which can only be a good thing.

 

Best wishes to Chris for the future; came in and helped us out for free in a very difficult time for the club. Hopefully his bravery in speaking up on this issue will encourage others to seek help.

Outstanding article on the Guardian website about Chris Kirkland coming to terms with the depression which blighted the later years of his career. Good to see he has spoken out on the subject, and very brave of him to talk about it so honestly. Following on from the Guardian's excellent feature on youngsters discarded by football clubs, it's heartening to see such issues discussed so thoroughly.

 

Chris joined Vale as a goalkeeping coach in January but doesn't mention that. Don't recall reading that he had left us but presumably he isn't around any more?

He said recently he'd had to leave due to commitments with his other work. I think he runs a goalkeeping academy doesn't he?

I think there should be more awareness about depression amongst season-ticket holders.
